Hi, any thoughts on using an in-line surge protector?

High power surge suppressors are expensive most off the shelf ones are only good for 15 amps and that is pushing it. Small ones on sensitive things like a computer or TV hooked up between them and the camper outlet would work.

I know there is another brand as some here on the forum have them. I still can't find them but they are an equal to it maybe even a little better.


If you are after one to protect the entire camper the higher protection ones are above $200. I think our was like ~ $240 on sale. If your over 1,000 joules of surge protection your in the higher league.

We have a new converter on the way "latest from American" Carlos, the senior tech, said there is enough surge protection built into converter. ???

Yes there probably is but it's for 12 volt stuff won't help you with plug in 120 volt things.

Yes this is true what American stated. The DC power is cleaner by design however the AC unit, the Microwave, your DVD player if you have one, the TV set if you have one are all un-protected.

Think of the higher end surge protector as an insurance policy. You never need them if things always work right but the one time they don't, that is when you need it. We do a lot of camping and the odds are higher we may get zapped so we sprung for the higher end Surge Guard. The Progressive unit is top of the line as well.
