Sunny 18 has a new home! (Lots of pictures!!!)

No, we didn't sell it already!

We ordered the new "Sunny Port" on 4/25/12 and it was delivered/installed today! It's 40' long and 26' wide. I tried getting off work early, but with a government railroad inspector in town, that wasn't happening! Since we had Sunny at the top of the driveway, Kitty made use of it! kitty's aunt and uncle came by to watch the construction and they set some chairs under the front of Sunny. They had perfect seats!

Kitty took pictures, until I got home... I'll let them speak for themselves....

We were supposed to get some "Weather Blocker" sunscreen for the south side, but it didn't show up with the crew. I'll call about that tomorrow. One of the pictures also shows the red line I painted on the ground. That makes it SO much easier, to get Sunny in properly!

Soooo! Do I see rebar driven into the ground for anchors? How deep do they go? Were screw anchors available extra? How tall is it to the angle braces in the top corners? Was there a extra charge for going higher and how much? Did you get the horizontal or vertical side panels? Are you going to enclose the ends? How close does Sunny come to the roof backing in? It looks like when the rear rises it could be kinda close back there. Will Sunny clear if you concrete the floor?

Thanks for documenting the process. I am very jealous. Wish I had something similar for our 30ft. trailer. I also would be interested in the answers to some of the questions.

As far as a snow load what can this withstand? Are you required to clear it or does it matter?

I've been following along the chemo. Having gone thru it myself I know how tough it can be. I find it amazing how Kitty can work and go thru chemo and work. Hoping the best for you.

That's what it is right now, but it's not what we paid for. It will be done right...

How deep do they go?

They are 3' long.

Were screw anchors available extra?

Scre type anchors are what we paid for. They said that they couldn't get them to go in and used the rebar instead.

How tall is it to the angle braces in the top corners?

The legs are 12' long and the bottoms of them are around 6" off the grade. The angle braces are 36" long and come down 18" from the top of the legs.

Was there a extra charge for going higher and how much?

12' legs are as high as they come. I don't know the price difference.

Did you get the horizontal or vertical side panels?

The roof panels are vertically oriented. That is to help prevent snow from being held on the roof. The roof is 3/12 pitch.

Are you going to enclose the ends?

We are thinking of enclosing the back and sides. That will have to wait until the budget allows.

How close does Sunny come to the roof backing in?

Sunny is 3' away from the side wall and allows plenty of clearance. I even have room to be on Sunny's roof.

I would only need 4" of concrete, if I get 3,500PSI. There will still be plenty of room. Next time I put Sunny away, I may have to get Kitty to take a video of it..

They never gave me specifics, but this thing is certified for use in this part of the country. They calculate what it will need to withstand and build it accordingly. We should never have to clear the snow off of it. I wouldn't want to be up that high and on a slick metal roof anyway!

This is the carport we have behind the house. It's not a certified unit either..

By the time the snow was over, it had 42" sitting on it. One of the legs bent slightly and one angle braces was bent. That was the only damage.

It looks like they were afraid to back their trailer up close to the worksite. They should have had Kitty back it up for them. :-D

They didn't want to block my driveway off in case I needed to get out. It also provided them with room to manover those 26' long roof trusses.


The only reason the port behind the house got a little damage is because it does not sit level, the one side is a good bit lower, so it just sorta leaned from the weight of the snow. But a new leg & corner brace and now it's good as new, BUT Gary has said it will be getting leveled up.

With all that snow up there, my son got up there and shoveled it off while it was still snowing because we weren't sure exactly how much snow we'd end up with.

I think here in Florida some of those covers are rated for 150MPH with the screw in anchors.

I can see where with that rocky ground it would be hard, if not impossible, to get screws in. My metal storage building has the screws and it has been wind tested to 140MPH with gust to who knows how high and that is in this sandy stuff they call soil down here.

It is hard to tell distances on pictures. A video of Kitty backing into the spot would be neat. Maybe one day instead of still pictures we'll start posting video.

Thanks for the reply. There is a cover not far from here that looks to be about 24 x 40, at least, and it has the sides but the ends are open. I tell Wifey everytime we go by that we need one of those.

Jim - you sound just like Leo!!!!! Our garage is 24'x 70' and it isn't big enough for him! The real problem with it is the height......
