Spring Cleaning

Try a 39' fifth wheel with four slideouts! The fifth wheel being so tall creates even more surface area.

Ah, but at least it's the smooth fiberglass. I can't imagine doing all that in aluminum.

Still, just doing the very basic NuFinish wax job takes several hours.

I used a product called TC3. It's a cleaner resin that removed all the black streaks. I have a feeling that my trailer has not seen wax in many years while parked under a large Maple tree by it's previous owner. I started out trying to use an orbital polisher, but with all the crevices, it was nearly impossible. I would think that the polisher would work well on a fiberglass 5er like yours. In all honesty, I doubt there's any "quick and easy" way to wax a trailer. My next attempt at waxing will be with some type of spray on and wipe off wax.

John,
I just removed the CalMark cover today. 70+ degrees so I took advantage of the weather. I take the cover off as soon as it starts to get warm and it's completely dry.
I don't want to make you feel bad but, after the Winter, the Sunline is just as spotless as when I put the cover on in October. There's nothing like a clean white roof!

Kitty...we will be there at Rocky Gap! We will be on site 1 on Ash Loop.

As far as getting Sunny clean... we got our work cut out for us. We did wash it in late fall before we parked it on it's winter pad, but it is REALLY dirty. So we got our work cut out for us. The forecast is calling for more rain all this week so I doubt we will be getting out there before we weekend. I got to do the inside spring cleaning too. It is amazing how even sitting in the driveway the inside still gets dusty.

YIKES CLEANING :-o:-o HA, can't even think about cleaning Sunny, as the "pit" is currently "very" soggy. Waiting to hear from fellow Sunline owners, might meet them at Rocky Gap State Park in Maryland for the weekend of May 20 thru 22.

Might have to resort to doing a "camp driveway", just to help cure the itch to camp.

But, I took notice of Sunny, and well he doesn't look TOO awfully bad. Gary should not have to much of a job cleaning him ;););).

What ever happened to equal rights!!! :-D

Camp Drive way works too. I thought you still had "The Plank" to portage the mud...

H'mm, I also notice your Sunny is a "he". Ours is the "she" variety. I do not recall see that in the list of Sunline options

Hope you can get out soon :)

Rick, LOL

I think the next best thing over the Calmark is a building.... Our T2499 lived inside. Best year round thing for black streaks there ever was. My the T310 is 2 feet too long and 6" too tall... I could of dealt with the 2 feet too long but the 6" too high, well a whole lot more to deal with.

The out building will come but may end up moving before then. DW now wants the ranch home and we need to run about 15 more miles north or west to escape the taxes before we retire. The 500 acre soybean field across the street is now about 400 homes and growing... along with the taxes... So the building is at least 3 to 4 year off at this point.

Glad the sun is shinning back in the lower Hudson valley. :)

Jeff,

I know I often wonder how the heck one does get up front up high. Is that like a 14 foot step ladder?

Yea , equal rights are fine, and Gary & I usually "share" the Sunny chores, but "IF" Sunny is going to get cleaned anytime in the near future Gary will have to take care of it, as he keeps telling me to "STAY OFF MY ANKLE". SO, even on nice days he'd have a fit "IF" I was out there cleaning.

Even with the gang plank in place, the pit is just to soggy to even think about cleaning Sunny, unless Gary hitches up and pulls Sunny out of the pit.

And I guess Sunny is a "he" because of the "larger body build, bigger stature", and I think tan or green interiors are more male oriented, and blue or mauve/rose interiors are female oriented. HAHA, cabin fever must really be getting to me.

Today was a reminder of why we don't start spring cleaning until mid April. Last Friday it was 70, and everyone got spring fever, and this morning we woke up to enough snow to plow. We're looking at more snow on Wednesday.

Bummer..... for sure. They are saying colder this Thursday but the S word was not used yet....

Yes, I jumped the gun this year and I could have waited a few weeks to take the cover off. The cover is a timing thing. Have to remove it when its dry and before bugs start making a home in it. We're pretty close to decent weather so a week or 2 of crap weather is something I'll have to accept.

Wow John, they built 400 houses across from you? That's some way to change the neighborhood! Unless you're already on a 4 lane road, I can't believe that a zoning board would approve that kind of development. Every home has at least 2 cars! I can see why you would want to get away from there!

You can keep the snow up your way. Down here in Quakertown we had about 1" and it was gone by noon.

This weekend I was able to remove the tarps & begin to cut out & re-caulk all the window, door & seam areas. Using a butyl rubber caulk & while hard to work with I am pleased with the results. I also removed all the wheels & checked the brakes(still have app 50% ),magnets & repacked the bearings. Everything looks intact underneath so no problems there. Expect to replace the bathroom fan with a MaxAir as soon as the weather turns warm again. Removed the sliding doors in the bedroom & replaced with a sliding curtain to give us a little more room getting in the bedroom. John I will try the Tide as I used to use the RV stuff which can get pricey. The roof had a lot of chalking dust on it & after I brushed it off I noticed the rubber has what looks like pink & black spots??? otherwise the seams all look good. I am still planning to dicor tape the areas where roof meets the metal even though it does not need it(being precautions) Hope to get out on the road beginning of next month

Up here in the North Country of New York - same story:mad: - not happy at all.....I want to hear birds sing and tulips bloom!!!!!!!

Jeff,

I know I often wonder how the heck one does get up front up high. Is that like a 14 foot step ladder?

It starts with a good quality fiberglass a-frame ladder. I can reach most of it from there by hand. When waxing, I have to go up on the roof to get the top foot or so, as I can't reach it from the ladder.

It's not fun, but worth the effort! What is more problematic is waxing only the fiberglass surface, and not the myriad of decals. Those get no wax, and 303 after each washing. I can scarcely imagine the cost of replacing those at some point down the road, as they are so big and numerous.

Spring has sprung...or is thinking about it anyway, here in Virginia! I have about 155 miles to hike to my coach, so I have to make every trip count!
Cleaned up the interior...unhappy that the mouse issue continues...what is it they love about toilet paper anyway ????....was happy to see that my caulking and re-placement of weather proofing vinyl strips worked (no leaks)...cleaned up around the land. Too early to unwinterize, but April 15th is just around the corner.

Mike, Thanks, Your doing a great job of keeping the white stuff over your way.... We dropped big time in temps here and had a dusting of snow this AM but it was gone by 9:00AM. Last night around 5:00PM we had monster rain, hail and wind. Then it blew over and the sun came out...

While we cooled down again at least the white stuff has held off. Our Daffodils are just about ready to pop open, well until the cold snap anyway.

We are getting closer to better weather though....
