Spring Cleaning

Anyone have the weather break enough to start the spring cleaning process on the camper?

The weather broke here. Monday night I raked stones off the lawn.... A spring time ritual living with a gravel driveway and snowplowing. Finished up early and pulled the camper over on the concrete pad to start the "process"

Tuesday night was the roof.... Man that thing was dirty but looks and smells clean now! Tide does smell good. The roof seems to keep getting longer too....

Wednesday night, tonight, have 3 sides done from those evil black streaks. Still have the worst side to do, the non door side.... and the awning.

If all goes according to plan we will be in the campground this weekend. Saturday suppose to be really nice. Can't wait. Been cooped up since last Thanksgiving weekend and we have not made it out once yet.

So when is your spring cleaning plan starting?

There's about a hundred yards of deep snow turned to ice between the road and our Sunline.

And most of our driveway is still full of that deep snow turned to ice so even if we could go get the trailer, we'd have no place to park it, yet.

Guess we're waiting for "ice out" here.

Pulled mine out of storage yesterday afternoon. Spent some time touching up caulk areas that had separated a bit, can't be too careful.

Despite putting it away meticulously clean, it was pretty dirty, especially the roof. Thankfully I had waxed it before storage so the black streaks wiped off with a hand towel.

Probably won't clean the roof until after the first trip. Thinking of going down to Maumee Bay SP next weekend and use our annual passes for the Toledo zoo one more time before they expire.

Well John I can sure agree with the fun of cleaning stone off the lawn! I have done some raking of gardens, getting the leaves out and some roses pruned.

Did I read that correctly that you use "Tide"on the roof? We were using rubber roof cleaner seems to do a pretty good job. Only managed to do it once last year as I wasn't able to go up a ladder to do it earlier. So far this year I did open the awning the other day to let it dry out. I am glad to say it does look very nice since it was washed last fall.

We were planning to move to the big city of Windsor maybe this fall but the city has made it more difficult since they said no trailers in the front yard and we won't put it in storage. We look at homes but so few have room in the driveway deep enough to be behind the front of the house and still get out F150 into the garage. Oh well for now I will just get it ready for our trip to Florida come April and that will be a fantastic time.

Did I read that correctly that you use "Tide"on the roof? We were using rubber roof cleaner seems to do a pretty good job.

Ted, yes Tide is what Sunline recommended in my owners manual. I have tried the rubber roof cleaner from Tetford and even Dicor at spome ~$12 a squirty bottle and they do not seem to do any more then the Tide. The Tide lifts the dirt and I use a long hanlded car wash brush to reach 1/2 way across the roof. On exposed Dicro roof sealant or the shower dome I hose wet the area, use Awesome, scrub and rinse well.

The shower domes always bleeds yellow from the cleaning.

I also use 303 UV protectant on the rubber and all the plastic on the roof and the awning. I believe the bleeding yellow off the shower dome is the 303 coming off. I have the same problem with the bleeding yellow when I wash the 2 entry doors the window plastic insert is a different plastic. That and the 110 VAC out side outlet and the outside light fixtures, (door side, hitch and non door side)

Good luck in your new house hunt. As you know having the camper in the yard at the house is so nice.

For work I have been talking back and forth to a fellow in Long Lake. He said the where recently hammered with I think about 28 inches of snow. Stopped everything. Then the rains came….

I’m assuming the area you are in is the same or similar? The Adirondacks are truly a beautiful place. We are going back again in July this year. However winter, is well, really winter…. I’m making an assumption you are about a month out before the ground starts showing up?

Jeff, have fun as Maumee Bay. We stop in there when ever we are coming or going camping in northern IN. It is a good stop over before heading down to Columbus. A nice park. Clueless Camper turned us onto it.

We're just 55 miles or so straight south of Long Lake.

I’m assuming the area you are in is the same or similar? The Adirondacks are truly a beautiful place. We are going back again in July this year. However winter, is well, really winter…. I’m making an assumption you are about a month out before the ground starts showing up?

A bit less snow and a tad less cold here, but not by much. We've still got a good 18"+ of packed snow turned to ice in the yards and fields. The snow banks in front of the house are still over 5 ft. tall, but melting more each day.

Just south and east of here in Albany there are still snow banks but the ground is pretty much bare. I think we'll see most of the ground by late March.

we are looking at the end of April - beginning of May before we can even think about getting the TT out of storage.....lots and lots of mud to content with after the snows melt.....

Tweety cleaning and restocking is on tap for this weekend!!! 71 degrees tomorrow I'm not sure when the first trip is going to be yet.

Well the truck is fed, hitched and the fridge is on. We are heading out on Friday, YEH!!!!

303'ed the roof tonight, the water is up and going and filled ready to roll. In the late winter/spring we need to haul water to this campground. Still have 1 dirty side of the camper... but I can make that concession....

Ground isn't quite solid enough for me to pull out the trailer yet, but I'm hoping the next couple days will make it possible.

Then we've got to get inspected so we can go (should have been inspected in the fall - but the tow vehicle broke and was in the shop a LONG time :-( )

Well, I got the entire trailer washed (roof included) and waxed. I felt like my hand was going to be permanently cramped closed after I finished waxing. There has to be a better method (spray on - wipe off type wax) than what I used. Anyhow, next up is a new awning fabric and I'm going to remove the mauve carpet and replace with a neutral color. Here's a photo of the T2070 with a fresh scrubbing.

YIKES CLEANING :-o:-o HA, can't even think about cleaning Sunny, as the "pit" is currently "very" soggy. Waiting to hear from fellow Sunline owners, might meet them at Rocky Gap State Park in Maryland for the weekend of May 20 thru 22.

Might have to resort to doing a "camp driveway", just to help cure the itch to camp.

But, I took notice of Sunny, and well he doesn't look TOO awfully bad. Gary should not have to much of a job cleaning him .

I couldn't imagine waxing a 32 footer unless I had a nerve block done on both of my hands. My boss has a 28 foot Layton and I think I goated him into waxing his trailer. He normally just washes it, but I told him how nice the trailer looks when waxed. I accidently omitted the pain and cramping involved in the process...lol.

Thank you, but no thanks. This trailer is my first TT since our pop-up back in the late '80's. I think I'm a bit over zealous with cleaning it and updating the interior, but I'm hoping that my wife shares my interest in camping and we move up to a new camper in a year or possibly two. There's a method to my madness...I just hope it works...ha..ha.

Try a 39' fifth wheel with four slideouts! The fifth wheel being so tall creates even more surface area.

Ah, but at least it's the smooth fiberglass. I can't imagine doing all that in aluminum.

Still, just doing the very basic NuFinish wax job takes several hours.
