I am looking for recommendations for a Campground near Myrtle Beach for April, also any routes other than 95 from North Carolina down. Planning camping is the next best thing to being camping. THINK SPRING.

Hi Heaton,

We've camped at Pirate Land. It's more of a destination CG with beach access. Not sure if this is the type of campground you're looking for. We stayed there for a week, it was nice, easy access to other areas of Myrtle Beach and the kids liked it.

We took I-81 into VA (Exit 313 around Winchester, VA), then tool Rt. 17 to I-95 and then I-95 south to Myrtle Beach. Rt. 17 connect to I-95 around Federicksburg, VA and was a very nice road to drive. This route avoided DC traffic for us.

Hi Heaton,

I don't know if you want to be right "IN" the center of all the Myrtle Beach action or just in the area. But, I'll recommend a campground that I stayed at and would/will go back there again. I didn't need/want beach access, kid activities, etc. This place is about an easy 1/2 hour drive into the heart of things. The pull thrus are So darn long

SC Campgrounds

We stay at Hunting Beach State Park and Myrtle Beach State Park, both are located to the south of the main strip with Myrtle the closest to the strip. Both of these have beautiful beaches with the sites at Huntington larger. I believe we paid about $20-25. Both are beautiful campgrounds and with some full service sites at Huntington Beach. I believe Myrtle only has W/E.

Route South from the NE

We drive south from NH every other year. We always travel through DE and MD across the Chesepeake Bay Bridge.

There are two reasons, first we like to avoid the Wash/Balt traffic, second we always stop at Asseteauge National Seashore to be surrounded by the wild ponies. It has 41 miles of beach and is almost a ferry land. Try to make reservations and stay at the oceanside campground. The sites are huge and paved though it is dry camping. Just before the national seashore there is Maryland state park with services but Assetague is special and unforgetable.

We than follow 17 South to Myrtle and take it all the way to the Georgia line. We always stop in Charleston for a couple of days, one of the countries best walking cities.

Myrtle Beach

Thanks for all of the info. We are waiting for confirmation of a site at Myrtle Beach Travel Park. From what I read it sounds like a nice place. I am a bit confused about not being able to reserve a specific site. But the place looks huge so I guess things work a little different there. We are planning to get off 95 at Wilson, N.C. and taking 264 to 117 to 40 to Wilmington. Not real sure of the condition of the roads but I will be sick of 95 by then.

Where do stay in the Charleston and Savannah areas?

Charleston and Savannah

We are members of Passport America, $35-50 a year membership, and stay in their member parks when we can.

In Charleston we stay at Lake Airey RV, $11, on the south side of the city.

Near Savannah we have stay in Rincon, exit 109 off I95 at Whispering Pines. It use to be a Passport but is no longer. If we're not stopping in Savannah we stop in Brunswick GA at Golden Isles RV at exit 29 on I95, $12. Great gasup exit Goasis is the place to buy gas here.

If you come down through DE and MD, about 5 miles north of the Chesepeake Bay Bridge on the left side as your heading south there is an Exxon Sation named Sting Rays that serves great seafood at very fair prices.

There is also a gret seafood place if you head towards Brunswick away from the campground named SPanks seafood on the right.
