Some info on my moms health

Mom update, friday 8/15 8:32pm Spoke to Dr. Rosenshines' nurse today around 3pm. Mom doing well, not eating much, told them mom is very very light eater, and to try hot dog, hamburger, chicken, mashed taters, corn. She has been having physical therapy. Her memory is really shot. She is doing well as far as after surgery healing. They are still aiming for coming home this sunday the 17th. They have arranged for physical therapy at home for a while. She has a walker to use, and does/will have a couple of drains to care for. As for chemo, that has not been determined/decided as there are some blood issues that won't stabalize. So, thats what I know as of now. I return to work next thursday, and trying to juggle mom care as my first three work days are meetings, which make it harder to do breakfast/lunch.

I also installed a new ceiling fan/light in her room as hers had stopped working, but I don't know if she will remember/notice. I have been trying to keep myself busy this week. Pretty stressed, but coping.

Kitty...you are a very self reliant woman who never ceases to amaze me with your ever present energy and creativity. I know you will be able to handle whatever comes your way my friend. I have complete faith in you and yes you definitely have your hands full with the current situation but you and your Mom will move ahead and survive and ultimately succeed in this test of health and mental endurance. Sending all the best New England wishes your way Kitty. Keep a smile and stay focused on what must be donel Good luck to you although I believe you make your own luck. Bless you and your Mom.

Hi Kitty :) Keep your chin up. Most likely your Mom's memory will revert to its previous level when she gets back in the familiar and comforting environment of your home. And Sunny will soon be repaired!!!...sounds like you're on an upswing :D

Mom coming home tomorrow. I spoke to the nurse to make sure that was still the plan and they said yes. Then I asked how mom was doing and they said very well, and I asked if they thought it would be ok to talk to her, they said yes. So, they transferred my call to her room, but nurse went to room as mom didn't know how to answer phone. She sounded good, I asked about her pain, and she said it was better. I then told her I was coming to get her tomorrow, had to tell her 2 times, and then she kept asking "what time". I told her around 1pm. So, I hope things go well, and I did the right thing not sending her to a rehab facility because of her dimentia/alzheimers. I thought she would do better in her regular surroundings. I might have made a real mess with that decision. But, I'll just have to deal with whatever.

Kitty you made the right decision. People almost always do much better when they can come home. Being comfortable in your own environment is the key.
When I was 16 I was nearly killed in an automobile accident. After being in ICU for over three weeks the doctors wanted to send me to a rehab. My parents refused and took me home. It was more of a hassle for them, ie taking me to PT every day, and the visiting nurses, bathing me, etc... but it was much better for me. Coming home was a fantastic feeling. Your Mom will love it.
