Ok, Sunday My wife and I started removal of the 1 booth and jack knife sofa, which only took us less than 2 hours to complete. Below are the Pic's.

Started with the removal of the sofa

2359118913_c776b0dd27.jpg

I couldn't just remove the 4 screws that held the sofa hinge to the platform, there was no room to get the cordless drill in, so I had to remove the bolts that held the seat to the hinge first.

After the bottom cushion was removed, I then removed the top one next

After the top and bottom cushions were removed than I removed the screws that held the hinge to the platform

After the hinge's were removed this is all that was left

In order to get the platform out I had to remove the carpet so I could access the screws

If memory serves me I think there were 4 screws on each side

In order to get to the screws that were supporting the wall I needed to remove the paneling

Once the wall was removed all that was left was the 2x4 that was screwed in from the outsde wall

My dilemma was removing the 2x4, I used my zaw saw with a combination blade to cut through the wood and screws, but once I hit that screw that was all the blade needed. Throw away, those screws were harden steel, so my next choice was to use a wood chisel to break the 2x4 up and once it was removed I used a pair of vice grips to break the screws off even with the wall, and tap them back into the wall just enough to be able to hide. I don't have a pic of the 2x4 removed, just imagine it.
Yesterday I ordered our Flair air mattress sofa, which should take 2 weeks to get. Plus I need to get two chairs for the table, and the project is finished
The only thing that I need to find is the tape that sunline used to hid the seams on the paneling to help cover up the screw holes, and as far as Structure integrity its still sound.

By the way the jack knife sofa is for sale

Excellent job. Thanks for taking the time to snape and post the pictures.

Can't wait to see what it looks like with your new sofa and chars.

We ordered our T-276-SR with the sofa bed option from the factory and we do not have the compartment under the sofa or the compartment door in the side of our slide. I didn't realize there was a compartment there on the "standard" model.

Thanks for posting the pic's.

Gee, you have a dance hall in there now....

I also noticed you where able to lift up the 2 x 4 on the ground that ran along the front side of the couch and the rug under it still seems to be intact. Like the main rug went in 1st, then added all the little 2 x 4's to support the couch after it.

The wall seam tape, yup looking for that too. I saw your other post on it. Hopeing some one would jump in on it with a link to find it....

I'm really interested in your bath room redo. Keep us posted.

Thanks

John

Ok I'm back, after 3 1/2 weeks the sofa finally arrived; I had it sent to my place of employment, which really helped in the freight cost. Also between the time the sofa arrived I managed to cover the holes were the screws protruded through the wall by coving them with a piece of trim and glued to the wall.

The move went quite easily once I figured out how to remove the back, which was on only held on with 2 allen screws, once removed the back just lifted off.

Once off my uncle and I moved the lower half into the trailer

Follow by the back, then reinstalled

WOW, that looks fantastic. I like the new sofa, would blend right in with my decor :) I have thought about replacing my jack-knife (back killer) sofa. My problem is that my water heater, furnace and part of the wheel well are under the sofa. But, I can tell you this, I WILL find a sofa that will work in there.

Where did you purchase your sofa from ?

Thanks for the pics of the remodel,

Kitty

WOW!!! 8)

Nice job and it looks GREAT!!! The chairs too.

If I ever decide to get rid of my jackknife, I will go this route. Mine has an outside storage door under it and I do put some thing in there. So I have to figure out where to put that stuff first.

Thanks for posting.

John

Kitty,

Very friendly people;

We took our first camping trip for the season this past weekend at Spring Gulch Resort Campground what a great weekend we had. My son, who gets to use the new sofa bed, had no complaints. We did notice that I need to better secure it to the floor; my wife noticed that when she opened the door she saw that the sofa had slid around on the carpet, not a good thing; so I need to get that done before our next trip.

I thought I'd add some pictures of the latest changes we made since 4/08

we add a new Swanstone sink, with pull out faucet, my wife loves the faucet. I should also note that I replaced the drawer rails with ball bearing drawer slides. I'll have to add the pictures later

another view, plus I added the drop leaf that was attached on the wall located in our bedroom which was used as a TV shelf, worked out quite well.

we even removed all the metal mini blinds and replaced with day shades from homedepot, I also had the windows tinted, looks great from the outside.

Looking really nice!!! So now that you are on table and chairs, how do you like it?

That was a must have when we found ours. While the booth is nice and adds those 2 big drawers and a mini bunk for a child, the table and chairs is a real nice alternative.

Thanks for sharing. Looks really good

John

Hi John,
Thanks for commenting, In the beginning it was nice to have the large drawers, but when it came down to it, we really didn't need them, all my wife did was have all kinds of extra STUFF we didn't need or use. Since I removed them, its appears to show as a much larger area, we have 4 chairs, but if our 17 yr. old son doesn’t travel, then we pull them out, then just use the 2.

When we had the booth I did notice we sat much lower in relation to the chairs we have now, which then felt uncomfortable. Now that winter is near, I’ll have to think what type of project I’ll be undergoing next year.

Vaughn - a question for you!

How hard was it to replace the blinds? Can you give a ball park cost to do so.....yes I know all models have different size windows but I need to consider this in the future!

Hi Leo,
We bought them from Homedepot, Bali Birch Cordless Cellular Shades, they were installed in the bedroom and were cut to only the width of the window not the length $, and corded ones on the slide windows which were custom cut $$. The installation was not difficult at all, as long as when you take the measurements you allow for room, I didn’t remove the side valances due to the fact, when the blinds are installed you would not be able to get the screws up inside to re-fasten.

When I measured each blind for the slide windows I measured the full window frame, left to right and also the total length from the head rail to the bottom of the window, gave those measurements to the sales person at the Décor section who placed the order. A week later I had them and installed in less than 2 hrs. Hope this helps Less than $300 for 6 windows
