shower drain leak

anyone out there with a shower drain leak? we discovered the drain was leaking under the pan and had to rag bail the area under the shower and dinette seat. does anyone have info if the shower drain will screw out or any other solution? it is leaking right at the drain pipe directly under the shower pan. thanks
 
In that case, I'm guessing your entire drain setup is plastic. I once pulled out a shower drain on a '93 2251 and it is all plastic, held into the bottom of the tub/shower with a plastic ring/nut on the bottom and sealed with putty tape under the top lip. Since it's all plastic, it very well could split, but it also could be the putty tape is starting to leak. I'm not sure if there is a good way to pull out the shower, because that shower/tub I mentioned above was already removed to make room for a shelving unit. I wouldn't let it go too long because the floor will start to rot, and then you'll have a really big mess on your hands. I'm not 100% familiar with your coach, but I do believe you might be able to access the drain from the exterior storage compartment, or an interior wall if there's a removable access panel.

We had a shower drain leak in our 1999 T-2670.

I put some more plumbers putty around the drain in the tub without removing it and that took care of the leak.
 
do you know if the nut holds the drain in? the nut itself would not tighten at all so the crack idea seems the most probable. any one with ideas on how to fix this? we gave plumber experience in the family so we can fix it if it were in a house as it were.
 
The nut does hold the drain in. I'll try to find it and take a pic. If it is cracked, I'd just go ahead and replace it because the damage that's possible from a leaky drain is not worth the cost of the new part. I'm sure the drain is used by other manufacturers, so it should be available from any RV dealer.

i wish i could call it a drip, it is a gush. we had to take the dinette seat cover out etc and lean over the seat and hold towels on the drain while the other took a very quick shower! the pics help and i'll have my husband look at them! the gush comes from under the drain under the shower floor at the underside of the drain. so i am betting it is a crack aseembly. would the repair be much like a home one? pull the drain out from the shower floor and replace the nut?
 
There might be an access panel to access the shower plumbing, but they may have put it behind the dinette since it's right there. If the dinette bench is a problem, there are a few screws on the inside holding it, should you want to remove it.

From what you described, it sounds like a drain or pipe that's leaking. If it were the seal between the drain and shower floor, it wouldn't gush out like you described. The repair should be just like a home repair, because the same method of cleaning and glueing the PVC should be used.

YES, just a messy job leaning over the dinette bench. thanks to all for all your help. we opened our sunline on friday the 13th, made it through the nor'easter and only had this one problem. i guess we can make it thru anything now! thanks again for all your help.
 
On the lightweight camper I used to own, the shower drain elbow cracked because the floor flexed too much when someone got in---and I wasn't even fat then. :oops: :oops:

Turns out the stooges (maybe more than three) who designed the tub support, put a floating piece of wood under the shower/tub floor. This shifted on some trip, and viola, when we stepped in we cracked the drain.

Lord knows how much water dripped into the sandwich layers of foam and particle board.
 
problem solved

well, we got it fixed. my poor husband spent 12 hours hunched over and under the dinette seat (would not unscrew because one screw comes from the outside (under the siding) and even at the end of 12 hours and 5 different trips to the store could he fix it.
three days later his dad, a plumber, went to help and low and behold it is a two man job. one thing they did was totally removed the drain rim, elbow and all and re plumb it. it takes two people one to hold the drain steady topside and the other to make the connections etc and then tighten it all up. no more leaks! thanks for all your help
