We started as tent campers, moved to a small pop-up, and this winter we purchased a 1982 Sunline 15 1/2 SB TT. So experienced campers, but not experienced RVers. We wanted something we could park, level, and sleep in, and something that we wouldn't have to set up again at home if it was wet. Our vehicle is a Subaru Outback with a tow capacity of 2700 lbs. And we have 2 kids, teen & tween. We probably paid too much for this given the shape it's in, but trailers meeting our needs and budget were few and far between.
So far we've fixed a leak, repaired a section of rotting floor, and scrubbed it top to bottom.
We still have to fix a wiring issue... no bathroom light, no light over the table. Does anyone have a diagram for this model? I didn't see it in that section of the forum, but hope springs eternal.
We haven't tested the water system yet.
We tested the propane system and the stovetop works. Haven't figured out the oven yet, and we're not sure about the heater. The refrigerator doesn't work on propane or electric.
And there was an unlocated nest of carpenter ants. We tried listening to walls and the floor with a stethoscope, but we couldn't find it. Since the rotted wood is gone, we're hoping they've relocated. They haven't been spotted lately. Any advice in this area is welcome, though.
Someone did repairs using sealing caulk on the inside (Is this a legit thing? Seems really sus.), and rebuilding one of the table benches. They made it not level with the other side. They also put in a new table that doesn't really fit, moving the original hardware to new positions. The latch on one side doesn't work. So we could still use that area as a bed, my husband fitted some plywood for the space and used some strips of wood under the edges to make it level. That's a do-fer; we plan to make a new table that will work, and rebuild the bench again.
We have plans redo the interior as a wattle and daub style adventurer's inn - Dancing Dragon Party Wagon concept. Yes, I said it. (But the name will probably change since the kids don't like it.)
Well, that got lengthy. I'll probably be looking for lots of advice.
