Just thought I'd share a very cool experience we had on the 4th of July.

We got a call from NPR host Madeleine Brand who does the show Day to Day. She interviewed us about the high costs of fuel and how it is cutting into our travels.

Since Cindy and I are major nerds and listen to NPR non-stop, this was quite the honor.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July and had fun camping!

I talked to a buddy this weekend who's the same  ... he'd heard the interview! Listening to it made me laugh as I'd had a Badlands experience where a miscalculation led us to the Sage Creek primitive site in western Badlands NP. We were headed west, so backtracking miles east for showers quickly evaporated as we realized the error. It was late April so we were the only ones in the camping area... it felt like we were the only ones in the whole state of SD. We woke up the next morning smelling something foul. After gaining enough of our senses we figure it out to be the breath a huge bison, about 20 feet away from us, with its shadowed silloutte cast against our tent with the morning sunrise. She took her time hitting the grass that the sun had hit to melt frost off until she got far enough away that we were able to quietly yet rapidly pack up and get the heck out of Dodge.

Let the group know how you make out with your mods to your vehicle please. I'm also interested in the 'algae to bio' concept that's emerged.

Enjoy your travels.
Take care,
Jason
