Rear bumper mount bike rack

We have a 2007 T-1950. We would like to utilize our current 3 bike rack/carrier. My ? is, is the rear bumper sturdy enough to do this? I see on Camping World that they have adapters for this purpose.

to keep it simple.....NO...unless you weld a receiver onto the frame!!!

Hi Wilson3,

As was said, no on the bumper. Sunline made them on purpose to tear off with much more than a spare tire back there.

I also caution a 3 bike set even if you have a welded on receiver. 3 bikes, the bike rack and the receiver add enough weight on the back of the camper to be a concern that needs to be worked through. The T1950 that starts out with only 11% dry tongue weight and where the added weight can possibly upset the towing stability by making the tongue weight too light.

I know hauling bikes is an issue pending what your TV is. Have you considered other options? What is your TV? We may be able to offer some other options.

TV is a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. Was hoping to be able to haul kayaks in the bed of the truck and bikes on the back of camper, guess we will just put everything in the bed of the truck.

What about a carrier on the front of the truck? I have seen these on the front of someones fifthwheel rig before...

Have you looked at something like the Yakima Outdoorsman 300 truck Watersports Rack ? It's a great way to carry kayaks and would leave the bed open for your bikes or vice versa.

We have the same dilemma----we put our bikes inside the T1950 leaning against the couch with towels wrapped around to prevent damage. Our kayaks go in the bed of the truck. it's not ideal, but works......

We also transport the bikes in the travel trailer. One trick that I had great reults with is to lash the bikes together firmly with a cargo strap. Then the towel of course. I haven't had them move yet.

We did the same thing. I was against the front rack considering engine cooling in hot weather. I never found a good system until I had a rear ladder on the camper and found a good rack at Campers World for $40.

I think the most convenient would be to weld a receiver to the rear frame under the bumper and use one of those carriers but this would be costly.

I happen to have one of those bike racks sitting in the garage.....we don't have a need for it now - not with a 10" garage attached to our trailer!
