Portable Gas Grill

DW & I need to replace an old gas grill which we use when camping. Do you have any recommendations? I've been looking at a Camco Olympian 4100, a Weber Q100, and a Weber Q200. Looking forward to hear what you have to say. Only 57 days until spring.

While I don't have any of those, from what I've heard and seen (we sold them this past summer), if I had to go out and choose today, it'd be the Weber Q200.

For many years, I played around with the Wal-Mart, K-Mart type of portable gas grills. 2 years ago, I finally gave in and purchased a small, don't remember model #, 100 maybe ?

Why on earth did I ever wait so long to get a great grill.

I am very very pleased with my Weber, even though it's the small one.

I vote for the Webers I have three of them in various sizes and have very good luck with all of them. Ever there little kettles cooks well.

We've been using the Weber Q 100 for three sesons now and love it. There's plenty of room to cook for 4 people, and if you buy an adaptor, you can hook it to a 20# LP tank. We use the grill at home and camping, and it still works as well as it did when it was new.

My brother has a Weber Q200 which he loves. I am planning to get the Q120 or the Q220 when my current lp gas grill dies...

We've had it for two years now. It works pretty well. Very portable. It doesn't handle stiff breezes very well, but then again without a wind shield, what stove/grill would? I like the 10K BTU burner... it's just a little more powerful than the old Grill2Go we had with it's 8000 BTU burner that took SO LONG to do anything.

The Q220 has the bigger 12K BTU burner AND a built-in thermometer. Side shelves, too I think.

We have the Q200 and like Kitty, we both said to each other "Why did we wait so long to get this!?!"

We also got the folding stand because we usually camp out in the desert or places that dont have available picnic tables to prop it up on. If we are camping somewhere that has a table, the folding stand is small enough that we just leave it folded in the bed of the truck

I would recommend it to anyone looking at getting anew grill. We camped with another couple who had the Coleman comparable model and after setting them up side by side, and both of us cooking on the two of them to compare, both couple agreed that they liked the Weber better.

I'm not sure who this should be an advertisement for - Weber, Sunline, General RV or just to tell people to go out RVing!!

I cooked on a Weber at a campground steak cookout last night and they do work well but they seem so unstoreable in a small rig. My impression was that they provide a nice even heat and are truly ruggeded but I can't imagine where I could put it in our little rig.

It would be nice to find similar quality in a squared up grill.

We have the Weber Go Anywhere Grill. These where the “in thing” from Weber before the Q style came out. And they still sell the Go Anywhere. The build of the Go Anywhere is very good as one expect from Weber, it is small and you can take it apart and clean it as the entire thing is porcelain. You can run it on a little green 1 lb LP bottle or use a hose to kook it to a tank. The size fits well in the back storage box of our camper.

However this is one problem with this one. The regulator seems to stop working and then no heat comes. I have gone thru 3 regulators already and the 4th is soon to follow. I now actually carry a spare regulator in the TT as it only picks supper time to die in the middle of a steak and then I’m fiddling with it…. Talk about marital distress, “Are the steaks done yet????” And before I figured out the regulator defect since it fit in my rear storage box so well, I picked up a spare.

I like the grill, it cooks very well, is built well, it’s small for storage just I do not like the regulator. Since it is a Weber it will take many more years before it wears out. We are on 5 camping seasons with it already. And then I have a spare…. I doubt they will wear out but in my case they may swear out… Every time I walk by the Weber Q’s they keep calling me…. I have noticed the regulator on the Q sereis is totally different. It looks more ruggged.

If and when, our next will be a Q sereis, they have so many of them now have to figure out which one....

In order for my Q100 to fit thru the opening of my front storage compartment door, I had to remove the lid, slide the bottom of the grill in and then set the lid back on top. That got old, so now Webber resides in a hinged lid rubber tote in the back of the truck, works for me. WOW, grill talk is making me want a great grilled steak.

Since the 2499 has such little storage, we bought the storage bag that Weber offers for the Q200 and keep it in that in the bed of the truck.

Makes it very easy to carry around

With it being 20F out and a foot of snow on the ground, Cyber grilling at the campsite is about all we are going to have for a while

H'mm truck bed. Yup, if and when that day comes my swears out, I'll have to find room in there.
