I am at camp right now but leaving today. I have never gotten pressure from the city water hook up. I took the filter off the hose and the pressure regulator but water spurts from both the city water spigot AND where the water goes into my rig. I was using the water from my tank and the pump but it started making a funny noise, like a constant noise instead of the pulsating noise when the tank went dry.

I know there is pressure from the city water as I unhooked the hose and turned it on and there was good water flow so I am assuming that somehow, some where my water line going into the rig is blocked? Unfortunately this is only the 3rd time I have used her this summer. I went to the MI Sunline Meet & Greet and was hooked up to camp water system (with the filter) no problem. Same thing when I was in the U.P for two weeks hooked up to camp water (with the filter on the hose) no problem

So I filled my water tank and turned on the pump and its back to pulsating but with a heavier vibration?

Its been cold here in Michigan this past week we have had a couple night where the temps dipped to 32 however I keep her at home, plugged in and have never let the interior temp go below 61 degrees

So short story made long....It would seem I have some blockage preventing the city water pressure but how did that happen when I have had no problems and use a filter? And my water pump seems to have a heavier vibration? :confused:
 
If the city water is filling your fresh tank the check valve inside the water pump is bad and possibly dropped the water pressure enough so that it's not flowing to the taps and that could explain the noisy pump.
 
It almost sounds as if the check valve in your city water inlet may be stuck closed. It's designed to let water in, but not out... If it's stuck, you wouldn't be able to get any city water in. They are available... HERE is a link to one.

Yet you are talking about a check valve INSIDE the water pump?

Is there more than one check valve? maniah posted that it could be the check valve INSIDE the water pump?

Yes, there are two.

The one in the "city" system keeps the pump from blowing water out the "city" connection when nothing is hooked up to it.

The one in the water pump keeps water from "back" flowing through the pump into the water tank when you're hooked up to "city" water.

But how can you know which valve is the problem for sure?

Does it matter if you use the pump when you are connected to city water? Would that damage it? Apparently I forgot :oops: you do not have to use the pump when connected to city...(that what's happens when you are a newbie and don't camp enough...you forget!)

I guess I could unscrew the city system valve and look and see if there is some kind of blockage but really since I am already taking her to the dealer to get winterized they can diagnose it (at a cost of course) *sigh*

So the next question if it is the water pump, can that valve be replaced or does the whole unit have to be replaced? :shock:

I think I need to take a RV repair class to save myself money!

If you get water while the pump is on(Water in the tank, of course.), then the pump's check valve is not blocked.

It is safe to run the pump, while connected to the city water. I sometimes do that to boost the pressure, while in the shower.

The pump will sound a lot different, when the tank runs dry. That is normal.


I read your original post, to mean that when you were hooked to city water (Pump turned off) you had little to no water pressure. That sounds to me, as if the city water inlet check valve is either blocked or stuck closed.
 
I agree with Gary, The spring loaded check valve may be stuck in your city water connection. I had this happen to us, and I just pushed on it and it reseated. I was filling our water tank and the pump would not build up pressure. It was pumping the water out of the city connection till I pushed on it.
 
The only way water can fill the fresh tank is if it's getting past the city water check that is the key if it is filling your fresh water tank the check valve in the pump is toes up.

I didn't read where her fresh tank was filling by itself. Her problem is not getting pressure, while hooked up to city water.

That was what I was trying to get at she was saying it was spurting from her city water and where it goes into the rig. I think we need some clarification. Those are some pretty small springs on the city hookup they are more likely to leak out on the ground with the pump on and no city water hooked up.
 
I replaced the whole city water connection and tested it with my garden hose and.........it worked!

So it was the check valve in the city water connection and not in the pump
(dodged a bullet there ;-) )

And my easiest repair so far :)
