Non ducted AC

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has wired their non ducted AC to the thermostat to eliminate the blower running non stop even after the compressor shuts down? On trips like ours this weekend (10-6-13) it is warm enough to run the AC but the fan running non stop is a tad much. Any replies are appreciated, thanks. Mike

I'll let the experts step in here but off hand I believe the A/C isn't designed to turn the fan on and off or it would. My home window units continually run fans too. If you could turn it on and off I don't think a thermostat could handle the amperage and relays would be required.

Not sure about the thermostat but I do think the fan running will help you keep comfortable by continually mixing the inside air. that will maintain a more even temp until the compressor/cooling is needed again. I do agree the sound is a bit much but for us it is tolerable on low. It can also help mask outside noises where outside noise would otherwise keep you awake. Our problem getting use to it was having the cold air blowing directly on my Wifey. When I adjusted the air direction so she was comfortable, we both got to sleep. Sometimes it takes getting use to but is much better than drowning in sweat.

Yea I know there is a way, my uncle is in the havac field, he has done one if his trailers, I will try and get in touch with him and see what he thinks about it an how he did it. Thanks for the replies! Mike

I was told it shouldn't be done. That is one reason we moved up to a
T 2499 over the T 1950.

I recall a really nice write-up on RV.net about this. A HVAC professional did convert his non-ducted roof top unit to cycle off of a thermostat and posted several pics. I believe the cost was just over a $100.
My second trailer (SO had a non-ducted unit that ran all the time. I sleept better with a little white noise, but the real added bonus was installing a heat strip in the unit. Big time savings if you camp while its cold out. I don’t think you can install a heat strip in a ducted unit.

I do belive they make them for the ducted. Kitty had one in her T2499.

Never had one, but know of these. It is only 5,600 btu's though or at least this one. Don't know if they make them bigger or not.
