New York State DEC firewood regs.

Buy firewood close to the campsite and ask for a receipt with the name and address of the seller. They can take the wood from you if you don't have it. I saw a DEC site selling wood this weekend. First I've seen that, $7.00 for a small bundle. Yikes.

Michigan has had a ban for many years for moving of hardwood firewood. I just bring a big pile of 2x4 cutoffs for jacking, leveling, and to burn in the fire.

OK, dumb question I guess, but if you live in the state you are camping in and have wood right on your own property, HOW would you take it to a campground with you ?

Or could this ruling just be a way of "forcing" you to purchase wood

In NY there is a special form that you have to carry with you and produce if asked. We can only trasnport wood within 50 miles of home.

So everyone understands, the reason for the ban on the transportation of the wood is because of certain destructive bugs. The state is trying to stop bringing bugs from one area and infesting other areas. It does force us to buy wood fairly locally to the campsites which I suppose is good for the local economy and not all that bad.

Certain parts of Michigan had an Emerald Ash Borer infestation, so it was an attempt to halt or slow the spread. I don't know how successful this was.
By the way, - don't even think about carrying any firewood into Canada!

or a Rolex!

I have heard of horror stories about people coming back from Vacation with Watches purchased BEFORE THEY left. I think it's mostly Rolex's. Tag heuer too..

Funny you mention the bugs.. i had no idea about this.. I was reading on the NYS reservations about this.. I guess it's a good thing... "Hey what are you in for?... Illegal firewood"
