Last summer we bought a very nice 35 foot sunline nomad. It was in great shape except for a soft floor around the bathroom. I figured we could use it as is for the summer and over the winter I would address the floor. Unfortunately the floor was much worse than we thought and all the wood behind the axles was rotted. We are in the process of replacing all the flooring and wooden structure in the back. Hopefully we restore back to original shortly. It’s a ton of work, exspecially around the bathroom. I’m glad I stumbled on to this site;it looks like there is a ton of great resources and info here. Thanks Matt

Hi Matt,

Welcome to our site! Glad you found us.

We're here to help, and it doesn't matter what brand of camper you have; we're happy to assist.

You mentioned you have a 35-foot Sunline Nomad. We all learn from each other, so that we may learn something from you on this one. I do not recall "Sunline" using the Nomad series or style name.

But, Skyline did make a Nomad brand/series camper. Sunline and Skyline were competitors in the industry. I have a good camping friend who had a newer Skyline TT. It was a nice camper. Skyline was also in the manufactured housing industry. I'm not entirely sure, but the trail I found indicates that Skyline sold the RV side of the business in 2014 to EverGreen, which then went under some time after.

So, with all that, did you read a label that was a little worn or faded and mix up Sunline with Skyline? Again, for us, we are OK with folks with other brands. The way campers used to be built and, sadly, how they leak, are not brand-specific, and we may still be able to help, as resting a Sunline or Skyline can involve the same techniques.

If you have a Sunline, please tell us more about it, as we have a wealth of Sunline information, including many copies of the original sales brochures and manuals we can point you to.

The VIN can also be helpful, as Sunline VINs start with 1LC. Skyline, I believe, might begin with a 1HG manufacturer code.

NOTE: VINs for models before 1980 used a different format than the current day 17-digit VIN. Is your camper older than a 1980 model?

Good luck with the camper repair, and again, we're here to help as much as we can.

Yes you are correct, doh! I misread the label it is a skyline. I have been working on the floor and I run into a dilema. The rot in the bathroom floor was really bad…so bad in fact I could not tell how and where the wood supports around the toilet were. Any help appreciated on how to support the floor and toilet flange. I’ll post some photos

Hi,

Your new wood floor joists looked OK, but I'm not totally sure what this silver looking sheet is as part of your repair, of what is under the silverr sheet. Is that allumium sheet over foam insulation board?

How many of the RV manufacturers or years ago did the toilet was like this. The wood floor joists where over the steel frame rails. Then 1/2" plywood or OSB board was glued and screwed to the floor joists. Then the RV toilet floor flange was screwed down to the top of the floor decking.

See this post of mine, with pics from beggining to end. It shows how Sunline did this and connected to the black tank. The floor OSB is what is holding the weight with proper floor joists under it.

Toilet to Black Tank Connection - Need help

The RV toliet floor flange is above the floor, not level with the floor like a house. And the RV toliet uses a foam gasket specifically to the brand of toliet, not a wax ring like in the house.

Hope this helps.

John
