My new TT! (sorry for the long post!)
Oh by the way I guess I should give you all the story on how I aquired this.......I responded to an internet add, 35 ft Sunline, cheap, you haul. I contacted the owner via email, and recieved my answers with in the hour. It seems they were divorced, and neither had used the TT for over 3 years, so it sat in storage at $65 per month(not a good investment)....neither had a vehicle equipped to move a large TT so they decided to unload it. I was told that it needed water pump and pipe work due to improper winterizing, the carpet may need replaced, but may clean up, AC worked as did stove and fridge...so I took a gamble and met with the owner and about an hour later I had all the paperwork and title, and for the paultry sum of $1, yes you read that correctly $1
Thats my dad and brother removing whats left of the cover......we took my brothers F250, due to a rear end noise in my Suburban.
I left Waynesboro PA @6:30 am, and drove to Rio WV, met my dad and brother and then we drove to Rehobeth DE, to pick it up(IT WAS A LONG RIDE in a standard cab 4x4!! But hey they both were anxious to see my $1 TT!). We stopped in Seaford DE for lunch at SONIC on RT 13, I bought, hecj it was the least I could do right $20(total now $21). Then made our way to Rehobeth.
When we arrived thats when the "fun" began.......there was an outstanding storage fee that had to be paid before I could move it. I was told it was $65 in the beginning, well it was $101, paid it in full(total now $122).
When we made our way back to the TT it had what was left of a blue tarp flapping in the breeze(oh and they were calling for rain...).
I did a quick walk around and we found 2 tires dry rotted, but holding air, a missing fender on the right and the right rear jack was broken and wouldnt roll up.
We unlocked it and found it, as described, it needed a good cleaning and looked as though it had not been used in years. The microwave didnt fit in the hole, so it was removed so it didnt get damaged in transit. We secured any loose items inside and began the hook up.
First we used a portable air pump my brother had to air up the air tank I brought....the pump blew up as it rounded 70 pounds(dad was supposed to be watching that, hmmmm). We tried to get all the tires to atleast 28 pounds...close really close but still a little low.
As my brother backed up to the TT, I guiding him back....I saw the reciever wasnt going to clear so I started to crank'er up!...or so I thought, the pin sheered inside and we had to tear the cover off and fix it....in the box of tool I brought I grabbed a small allen wrench...it didnt make 1 turn it too snapped......so I grabbed the biggest around and shortest allen wrench that would fit and...it worked(remember that rain,
well it started)!
After attaching the truck we installed the leveling/sway bars my brother had(gotta get me them things! they work GREAT).
Then we plugged in and checked the lights....Brakes...check, left.....check, right.....check, parks.....um NOPE, all we had the front 2 side markers only.
We tried cleaning the bulbs and sockets and still nothing(oh and the rain kept coming).
We decided to go get some air for the tires(they had 14, 18, 22, 26 pounds in them), and fill up with fuel, and maybe the movement of the truck and trailer would fix the apparent bad ground. As we pulled out we heard a noise like 10 billion little mice on a tin pie pan....but it turned out to be one very upset DelMarVA squirrel, who had apparently been renting the AC unit as his home! Sorry to evict ya little buddy, I said as he ran from on top of the roof to the ground and never missed a step! Good thing he jumped while we were creeping at 20 mph....wouldnt have been as lucky at 65 on the highway!
$75 in fuel(total now $197), and the rain had stopped, still no lights, and WaWa's air hose had less pressure than a bike pump, more air came out than went in. Oh well, we filled dad and my brother up with coffee, and me a Diet DrPepper, and off we went, prayin we wouldnt get stopped on the way back for no lights.
As the sun quickly started to fade, we made our way up the highway, my brother said it pulled good, and reminded him of our dads car trailer...except, the TT had about a 15ft overhang, LOL. Tractor trailers traveling atleast 15mph faster than us didnt push our truck around(like I aid I gotta get me them leveling/sway bars!). Even crossing the bay bridge was of ease.
We stopped again along the way to look at the tires and lights, and, nothing changed. We ate at Arbys(another $25, now the total is $222) at 7:30 pm, still hours away from home. The rest is pretty much uneventful, another gas stop, to put the truck back to our starting fuel level of a just under a 1/2 tank($40 brings the total o $262, oh plus the $2.50 toll, makes it just shy of $265!). I then got to drive home, and arrived back at $12:30! WHAT A LONG DAY! But well worth it.
