They are originals from 2004. I blew one hitting a curb on our 1st Trip and so discovered the age of these tires. We have 5 new tires on order right now.
I did not go back to MAXXIS and I chose not to get Goodyear Marathons either. I chose to buy DURO bias tires. I have had better luck with these tires than any other trailer tire, and we've had Carlyle (bias), Travelstar (which I think may be a Carlyle brand, also bias) Marathons (radial), Maxxis (radial) and the DURO's.
If they made a LT-rated 10-ply in a 205/75 15-inch rim size I could use, I'd choose that. But they do not. I'd even go to a 8-ply rated one if I was sure they'd fit these 5-inch rims I have and not have clearance issues.
My reasoning for going back to a bias tire: I believe the sidewalls are sturdier and the whole construct less liable to "squirm" than the more flexible design of the radial. I used radials in my lighter campers, but I really feel better using the bias tires on the heavier 2499.
I have a very strong feeling that you are correct about going to bias ply. The sidewalls ARE stronger and stiffer, every manufacturer states that. That is what appeals to me, since that is the most important attribute for a trailer tire. I went on a number of sites and radial tire failure from sidewall blowouts is a well documented problem due to this type of tire construction. Radials are great except when heavily loaded and heavily loaded is exactly what trailer tires are!
I do keep Aero 303 on tires and tires covers on when not being used. With so darn many choices and opinions, maybe I was better off not having a choice,
