M & G Shendandoah River State Park 2012

Gary-What is that big blob of tan that your lower loop arrow points to? We had the site right next to that last year, and there wasn't any bare spot there before, just a path through the woods back to the riverside trail.

I have no idea... I also do not know how old the map is. Google's map also shows it, but it looks better..

I was also able to get a tighter shot of the CG entrance, as well as the dumpster and dump station...

Interesting John... The first images I posted, were taken from bing maps... the orientation was 90* different from yours...

I have found every now and then the rotational images are from different time periods. How they glue all those aerial pics together must be quite the feat!

We have camped there since the park opened. In my opinion it would be best to get the lower side of the campground for sites. If you all would get the sites on the inside (drivers side) of the loop, then it would be possible to set up a canopy and have your meals and stuff there. We have spoken to the rangers about this exact topic when we were planning an event there. There is a plus to that side of the campground as well. You can hear the owls better at night and right before sun up. On the other side... you won't as much. Even know the treatment plant is on that side...you will smell nothing.

I just spoke to the ranger at Shenandoah River State Park. She said that leaves are starting to change and she anticipates the peak being in a week!!!! Perfect for our M&G :)
Other information she imparted....
Almost all trails are open to mountain biking.
The river is floatable, and there's a 3 mile float from Bentonville access to the park access. While we don't want to plan anything formal, we'll be bringing the toys, just in case :)
Hmmm....the upper loop sites are the ones with the river view....lower would be better for pot luck...contemplating what to do...

Gary plans to take Sunny down after work on Thursday, the 18th and then all we will have to do is drive the truck down. The campground is full, so figure since it's first come/first serve on site choices we'd do it this way. We plan to use the lower loop. Gary always has so much more to do since I really am of no help to him anymore, in fact I probably really create more work/worry for him, but I just can't bring myself to say, "I need to quit". I gotta keep rv'ing, it's in my blood.

"I probably really create more work/worry"

There is no "more work/worry" where love lives. ;)

Glad your getting out doing what you like. :)

Hi everyone.

I plan to come up on Thursday afternoon as soon as I can slip out of work.

We havn't talked too much more about the Pot Luck but Barb and I are bring Barb's Ham Stew.

Any one interested in doing ice cream sundaes, Friday or Saturday night?

Rich

Ice cream? Of course! I would suggest friday evening since we have some new folks coming it will give them an early opportunity to meet people. I will bring a half gallon of vanilla ice cream, and some carmel topping. If there's interest, I will also have a bag of marshmallows on board in case someone makes a fire one night. I didn't see any desserts coming for the pot luck, but roasted marshmallows works for me :)
Here's what I see so far....

POT LUCK MENU - saturday
Shrimp and coctail sauce (Tweety)
Kolbassi with Sauer Kraut and rolls (Ray & Lynn)
Jumbalaya and Apple Cake (Dumplin)
Ham Stew (Barb and Rich)
Baked Beans (Hope and RIchard)
Something green as in vegetables (Wright & Penny)
Dessert-brownies? (Jenny and Andy)
Ambrosia Fruit Salad (Larry & Wendy)

ICE CREAM SOCIAL...(friday?)
vanilla ice cream and carmel topping (Tweety)
ice cream cones (Ray & Lynn)

Our current plan is to bring Sunny down thursday evening when Gary gets off work, and then we will drive back down friday evening as Gary has to work friday. This will be a real no-frills camping trip for us as my energy level is very low, but I am NOT going to give up being out camping. Just throw another log on the fire and wrap me up in another blanket.

David and I decided to stop down at SRSP for a quick 2 nights stay on our 7 day fall road trip with the TC. So happy that after getting set up, a Sunny took the site next to us! Ray & Lynn. Next to arrive was Pam & Steve with their Fox. Beautiful evening campfire and great friends.

Kitty and I took Sunny down this evening... We had to come home, since I have to work tomorrow.. There were still lots of members already there and we got to chat for a bit...
