lengthening the bed in a sunline

My husband and I just purchased a 2363 and are going to pick it up in a few days. we are both tall and want to slide the mattress down over the end of the bed frame 5 inches and add a foam insert at the top in order to make the mattress the length of a standard queen size bed (60x80 vs the trailer 60x75). We bought the standard mattress that came with the trailer. How thick is the standard mattress? did you buy special trailer queen sheets for the bed?

Welcome to the club! I don't recall the exact thickness of the mattress, but I think its somewhere between 6-8 inches. I always used standard queen sheets. Due to the different sizes of mattress' used in the RV industry, it would be hard to make a set of sheets for one particular mattress, so I doubt any exist. However, if you add this extra length, getting around to the far side of the bed could be difficult.

I'm a long kind of person and the DW is a shorty. We bought a quality 3" memory foam topper for our TT bed. The memory topper is a full queen and the TT bed is short.

So we just pull the bed down and stuff the excess memory foam in up by where your head goes. The pillows cover that area and my feet do not stick out the other end too bad.

Sheets, well we use std sheets and tuck the excess under.

Hey Shelly,
Another 2363 owner. We love the floorplan. I would have to agree with Jon, adding length would limit movement around the bed. It is somewhat tight as it is. Mine is a 2002, if yours is newer you probably have a headboard instead of a window like mine. I wish I had the headboard as I keep bending the shades when I sleep. I am a big guy, 6'1'', perhaps a little wider than I should be, but I sleep very well on the standard mattress. If you are very tall you could always open the door. Best of luck on your new coach.

T2363 bed for two tall folks

thank you all for the good advice. We'll test drive the mattress first. Sounds like it might not be as bad as I feared. I'm a short 5'10" and the boss is 6'0". If a 6'1" guy can fit the bed we shouldn't have a problem. If we do need a couple more inches the memory foam topper sounds much better than my idea of sliding the mattress down and sticking something at the top.

I'm kind of surprised that none of the RV companies seem to consider tall people in their designs.

If we were both just a few inches shorter we would have purchased the 1950. It's a nice layout and a bit lighter. Our light F250 will be working hard with the T2363, but at least we can hang our toes over the end of the bed if we need to...

Just got back from picking up our new baby T-2363. The members' advice was right on concerning the T-2363 bed. It was long enough for my 6'0" husband as designed and there really isn't much room at the bottom to lengthen the bed - so thankfully we won't need to. We're following the last bit of advice and installing the foam topper now. Thanks!

After years of tent camping we sure did appreciate waking up in a warm place!

We live in our 2499 full time. So we scrapped the original mattress and brought in our large pillow top queen behemouth.

This is a few inches longer and wider, but I'd give up a little room for a better nights sleep anyday. We were able to move the headboard up which gave us a few more inches to move the mattress against the wall. So if you find that later down the road, you want to go for a bigger mattress, dont be worried to bring in a standard size one.

Eman, does your T2499 have a head board? Our 2004 T2499 does not, but it also has the front window.

Our 2499 has a fabric covered head board that matches the shade covers. It's about 2 or 3 inches thick and dropped below the heigth of the mattress.

We just unscrewed it from the wall and moved it up a few inches so we could gain those few valuable inches back and the pillows hide the bottom of it anyway.

I'll snap a picture tomorrow when Cindy isnt sleeping in it... I dont think she'd like me waking her up telling her to smile for the camera...LOL

Thanks for the tip on the headboard. Next weekend when we're out with the trailer I'm going to see if the headboard might be raised to add an inch or two. The standard queen bed is only 5" longer than an RV queen so with an inch or two added at the top we'd almost be there. The full time 2499 bed sure looks comfortable.

This might not work for you, but we decided that the sliding door between the bedroom and the bathroom wasnt needed. It's just the two of us and we've been together for 15 years. So I dont think either of can do anything that the other hasnt already seen once or twice...Maybe too much info...LOL

By removing the sliding door, we were able to gain another few inches for walking around the bed. We figure if we ever need to install a barrier between the bathroom and the bedroom, and heavy weight curtain will sufice and wont take up any room at all.

If you remove the head board, the buttons that the fabric is bunched up are just covers over top the screws. You can pry the buttons off and get to the screws easy enough and then just screw new ones where ever you decide to raise it up to. No one will ever see the holes, so no need to worry.
