Is it ok to use Rust-oleam?

I have minor rust on the bumpers and hitch of my Sunline. I brushed it as clean as possible with a wire brush, but am hesitant to spray anything on it without experienced advice.

If so...flat or semi gloss. My experience with Rust-oleam and my, once, wrought iron porch rails, is that rust comes back and semi gloss bubbles. Just not sure. Maybe there is something better.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you for your time, in advance!

Rustoleum is fine, either gloss or matte. Clean all rust, primer if you want with Rustoleim primer (I don't always to this), and give several light coats about 5 min apart until you get the look you want. Do NOT respray after about an hour. Wait several days if you want to respray or you will have to scrape it all off and start over.

It's all in the prep work.

I used Rustoleum semi-gloss on my tongue and bumper after priming with Rustoleum rusty metal primer.

Before you put anything on the cleaned area use a product called exten a rust neutralizer.

I wouldn't mess with spray. Spraying black with so much white aluminum around is bound to have overspray. I'd use the old fashioned oil based brush paint in a can.

I've used it on many trailers over the years and it holds up a lot better than spray ever will.

As Johnnybgood said, it is all in the prepwork. If you have any heavily rusted spots, you need to wire wheel/brush these spots really well.

Another product worth looking into is POR-15; it goes over rust and supposedly encapsulates it, preventing further rust because it keeps the oxygen away from it. I've never used it, but I've heard good reviews from others who have used it. It's pricey.

POR-15 is good stuff, but the problem is it isn't UV resistant. It might be ok to use on your frame rails alone, but if you use it on the tongue and bumper, plan to paint over it again with another paint that will handle UV.
