Is 27 Feet To Long?

Hello All,

I found a nice Sunline trailer for sale. It's 27.2 ft long.
I'm wondering if it will be too long for traveling to the National Parks and getting into some of the Campgrounds.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

This would be my first Trailer. 20-25 Ft was really as long as I had wanted to go. The trailer length may be not the greatest for boon-docking, but, it is so spacious inside, it would be great for long term travel.
I'm trying to find the best compromise.

We had a 28' trailer before the one we have now and were able to go anywhere we wanted. Granted we don't do remote forest service boondocking type campsites. But we do mostly state parks, COE, and a few forest service, rarely are we in a private campground. I always chose 25' when I'd make an online reservation and never had a problem. Unless you get something really tiny...maybe 22' or less...I don't think it makes much difference. When we had the 17' QUE we pulled into Sherando Lake Forest service camp in VA one day with no reservation. They were full except the tent section...no problem, we tucked it right in! We used to chose the tent section at Claytor Lake with that little trailer too. That said I think 27' is a nice compromise for being able to fit in smaller sites if you have to, as we'll as go on a long trip.

I'll second what Tweety stated. We went from 26 feet to 32 feet and after learning the turning radius of the longer camper/truck we have not been shut out of any park yet. Had to make a few choices, but never shut out.

Now, we are not going to fit in where we could with the pop up, that is a fact, but that would of taken out the 26 footer as well.

The 27' is a good compromise. If you are looking for small, it is more down below 20 feet, like 12 to 18 foot.

Again our kind of camping is state parks and wooded areas, but still having space. Back in the tent days I only needed 7 foot by 6 foot pad for a 2 man tent and I was fine. While I would like to do those days again, my wife really likes the big camper and so do I.

I went from a 20' to a 23' to a 27' and didn't see any major differance between towing or backing

27' may not be too long but will the TT weight "work" with your TV?

No issues with my 26'. Just have to plan ahead and be patient backing up (practice makes perfect).

I find little difference in hauling or backing up a 30' trailer. The only thing we do find is the limited number of campsites at the state campgrounds we frequent. If not reserving way ahead there may be few sites left that big on short notice. Private sites aren't usually a problem since most all are larger sites.
