Well after 2 years of, "I'm gonna do it next trip", I finally put the rig on the CAT Scale at the Pilot. Here goes.

Steer axle- 4,880 lbs
Drive axle- 6,040 lbs
Trailer axles- 8,920 lb
Gross weight- 19,840 lbs

That is the truck with a freshly topped off tank of fuel, including me, DW, the girls, and some odds and ends in the bed of the truck. The trailer with close to full propane, half full black tank, no gray or fresh water, and the rest of the usual "stuff" in the coach.

I know that the truck weighs between 7,700 and 7,800 lbs with me and a full tank of fuel on the scales at the feed mill. Minus the DW, dogs, and the fifth wheel hitch. Soooo without revealing the DWs weight and paying the severe consequences that would occour  I figure the truck weighs in at approx. 8,000 lbs in towing travel mode.
So-
19,840 lbs gross combined weight
- 8,000 lbs TV weight
11,840 lbs coach weight

Since the trailer has a gross weight rating of 12,500 lbs, this means I have approx. another 660 lbs free to fill with more stuff. Just kidding. We already travel with way too much stuff.

I just thought that JohnB and some of you other folks might like to see the numbers. Oh, and also thanks to John for weighing the pin weight at the 2008 M&G I know the pin weight to be 2,700 lbs.

Lowell, would you like to guess my coach weight   I play dumb with the dot 8) if you have 660 lbs to play with and a case of beer is about 12 lbs how many cases can you carry

Interesting.... Glad you went 1 ton. Is yours at 11,000 GVWR? Your sitting at 10,840 loaded. So you have another 160# more stuff you can put in the truck....

19,840#, she is a heavy bugger.

But mine is heavy too. When full fresh water I have 800# more cargo carrying capaicty before I hit full TT GVWR of 10,000#. And there is no way I have 800# more stuff... at least in the TT. Truck may gain from a cap some day, but I have filled the camper other then maybe more clothes for weeks out west some day.

Thanks for sharing

John

I want to get the Sunline to the scales, too. It's unloaded weight is suppose to be around 9400lbs, and it grosses at 12,000lbs. Truck weighs with family including two 90lbs Golden Retrievers, full tank of fuel, bed mounted tool box at around 9700lbs. Ready for vacation I guestimate we are around 22,000lbs hitched up. Sunline fivers are a heavy bunch.

22,000lbs...

19,840lbs...

If you guys hear someone rooting around in your camper at night next year at Buttonwood

.... it's me looking for the case of gold bars you've got hidden in your trailer somewhere.

I can't say I haven't tried to talk myself into a Sunline 5er... I just can't get past having to leave all the tools and projects I take camping in the garage!

Take care,
Lode
