EVERYBODY really want's to go to Alaska. Some people just don't know it yet. The real question is do I really want to drive pulling a camper to Alaska. We took a two week land/sea cruise 2 years ago and saw breathtaking sights continually.

I've read some real scarry suggestions for taking the Alaska highway with a camper like carrying 4 spare tires and many other spare parts. I think if I wanted to go rv-ing there I'd fly to Fairbanks and rent one.

Folks....

Within the past 5 years, I've had the opportunity to meet/talk with 2 RV owners who've towed to Alaska. Both raved about the sights....both recommended being part of a "convoy" of touring RVrs with a chase car....and both said not to take an RV that you planned to keep for a long while.

I tend to think that Emam would take issue with those opinions, but I've become a bit more cautious with senior status. If we make it to Alaska, it'll be by cruise and fly tour.

Well, the reason I made this post was to post a link to a bear attack that showed the horrible damage the bear had done, and that the man survived. Now, the man was tent camping, but still, any bear attack can be horrific. It made me think about weather I really really would like to visit Alaska. But, like everything else, there is/can always be some risk involved with anything we do.
SO, "IF" the opportunity & funds ever become available, I'm sure Gary & I would venture into Alaska.
I sure wish those photos would have shown up.

At Denali National Park you can only access the park by yourself for a short distance. You can camp in a tent too but you must take a course from them covering avoiding and protecting yoursefl from bears and other large animals. They'll even provide sealed containers for food and garbage.

All the cities even have sealed trash containers on the streets. On a bus tour of Denali you'll see many. I think most anywhere in Alaska, we're in their territiry.

I'll stick to the bus, train, and cruise ship tours.
