My wife and I have been camping for years but in a popup. We are ready to move into a trailer, and the only trailer that has impressed me is Sunline.
I guess my question would be which Sunline is going to be compatible with my TV. I have a 2001 Toyota Sequoia with a 4.7 liter engine. The tow capacity is 6200 lbs. I like the 2499.
I realize there is a lot of good information in this group so please help.

Thanks

Welcome!

I can totally understand being impressed with Sunline - I keep telling my husband I haven't seen any other brand of trailers that I like better.

I can't answer tow vehicle questions - but I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along real soon

Tow Capacity

Hi Wayne,
Welcome to the Sunline Club and I hope you find one that meets your needs. We also moved from a popup to a 2499, but had to put a new tow vehicle into the picture.

Tow capacity is a measure of you and all your stuff in the tow vehicle + all your stuff in the trailer + the trailer. Unfortunately this is only in the fine print and many people are led astray thinking it is all trailer. As a rule of thumb, avoid looking at a trailer whose GVWR exceeds the tow capacity of the truck.

I'd hate for a seller to take advantage of you with Sunline's dry weights so here are the real world numbers from our loaded--but no water--and road ready 2499: It weighs 6000 lb. and the tongue weight is 1000 lb. It will definitely exceed Toyota's specs for your Sequoia.

I believe you should be looking at 5000 lb. trailers like Sunline's 5500 lb. class and load lightly to give your older Sequoia a break. Check through the brochures in the files section--this would put you into anything from roughly a 1950 to a 2475. Not all were made in all years, but the 1950 and 2363 are quite common.

I think you'll be within your capacity but too close. You'll have trouble keeping up to highway speeds and you'll get poor milage. A T-1950 may be more within range for one of the newer Sunnies. They work well for two people. With my F-150, I hardly know it's back there.

Hi Wayne, Welcome.

I have a 4-Runner rated to tow 7,000 lbs. and tow a 2363 with a GVWR of 5500 lbs. That leaves me a comfortable margin but I would not want to tow anthing larger. Maybe that will help in what you are looking for.
