Hello everyone. Bob and Kathy from Grand Island, New York here. We sort of had a Sunline T1750 fall into our laps and have discovered what a wonderful, exciting and we must admit; overwhelming joy it is.

I have always been a tent camper (Kathy not so much), and we have been joining the rest of the family on camping trips for a few years now. I had been talking about building a camping trailer that I could build and store a field kitchen in, along with our tent and all our gear. This way I wouldn't have to load the Cherokee bed-to-ceiling each time we wanted to go for an outing. The idea was to load everything but cloths and food in the trailer and leave it loaded. We really had no intention of getting a travel trailer.

On the night of 15 June, 2011, I searched the word "trailer" on Craig's List and came up with the following listing moments after it was posted:

"15 ft. Camper Trailer - $700 - We are selling our 1984 Sunline camper trailer. It sleeps 4-5. Bathroom includes shower stall, toilet, and sink. Has stove, refrigerator and kitchen sink. More information and photos available upon request."

This started the wheels turning so I replied to the listing and made an appointment for Kathy and I to go see it that coming Saturday afternoon. A little Internet research had me thinking we were going to see a T1550. I thought even if the camper was only junk worthy, if the chassis was solid and the axle in good shape, I could strip it to the frame to use for my camping equipment hauler.

What we found when we pulled in to see it, was the adorable T1750 that had sat unused for 15 years. The owner bought it new in 1984 and used it once; maybe twice a year until 1996, when it was covered and parked. In 2008, the gentlemen gave the unit to his son in hopes that he would get some use of it. They used it twice in 2009, once in 2010, then decided to give it up. That's where we stepped in. Seeing that the frame was solid, we bought it on the spot (and NOT for just the chassis).

Here she sits in her new driveway only moments after coming home.

Don't get me wrong; she has a to-do list I could fill this forum with. The water lines are split; the propane line is rusted; the stove, heater and hot water haven't been lit in over a decade, no battery, bad ground in the 120v, some water damage, cracked lights, etc., etc. But what a joy it will be to bring her back to full function. Not sleeping on a tent floor isn't such a bad prospect either.

So, our journey begins. We took lots of "before" pictures and are documenting everything we do. We'll post it here if anyone is interested. We have a family camping trip planned in July, about 95 miles South-East in Arkport, NY. This adds to our enthusiasm to get at least the major systems functioning. But even if we done get it done in time, just the fact that Kathy and I are doing this together makes it all worth while!

Welcome Aboard.

You'll find several members have documented their restoration efforts on this site. The search function will give you lots of info to help you out.

Pictures, yes we like pictures!!!

Welcome to SOC and congratulations on your "new" Sunline!

Now that you won't be sleeping on the ground, needing a flashlight for those late night trips, having to pack and unpack everything each time, and settiing a tent up at home so it can dry after a rainy outing, maybe Kathy will want to camp more often. With the T-1750, you have more room than the T-1550 - bigger bath, holding tanks, fridge and a double sink.

We like to see other Sunlines and can learn from other's experiences, so yes, post your pics. Pictures also help others help you if you have questions.

There are a couple Meet & Greets in September you might be interested in. They aren't as big as the one in June, but you could put faces with a few of the names here.

Enjoy your journeys, both restoring and camping.

HI Bob and Kathy

Welcome to Sunline Owners Club!! It was a pretty neat reading your adventures leading up to your new coach! Thanks for sharing.

And pics, oh yes we like pics!!!!! Create a post in the repairs forum and post your heart out. We like seeing your handy work and the pics really help a lot of folks.

Happy camping and restoring!

John

Hi Bob

I just saw your camper pic's fly up and viewed them. Neat little camper thanks for sharing. One thing that struck my eye was white wall tires. Did the prior owner have car tires on the TT? Trailer tires are ST tires in your size. They have stronger and heavier side walls to handle the heavy side flex of tandem wheels scrubbing in a turn. Something to look into if you are going to tow the camper much.

Just passing it along in case you did not know. The P car tire can't handle the turns well

JohnB;

Yes, those are car tires. The prior owner replaced the original tires and stock wheels with the P185/R13's on Aries K car wheels from a car his brother was junking. Unfortunately, the rear tire on the driver's side is a smaller P175/R13. T-tires on good old white wagon wheels are on the list some where between new equalizers, shackles and springs, and the jacuzzi. Well... maybe closer to the springs. :)

Good observation! Thank you for pointing that out.

Welcome aboard. Nice rig, 1984 Sunline's rock! Over past 2 years have done a 95% restoration of my 84' F-1850 midget sized 5th wheeler. Had 7 pages, typed single spaced on the list of what I needed to do to it. Like yours, mine spent about 15 years neglected, mine not covered and under a tree. Our first trip after we got it usable was from New Hampsire to Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Just got back from another trip through the south last month. 1984's can go the distance!

Although Bob said they are car tires, the 1984 brochure does show white walls and "deluxe wheel covers" on pages 1, 10 and 12.

It might be hard to find TT tires with white walls now, but in 1984 they were available. Maybe the prior owner was trying to keep it looking as original as possible, not knowing (or maybe not caring) that TTs need specific tires.
