Toying with the idea of a trip from PA to Myrtle Beach. This would be the first non-local trip ever with our T-1950.

As a noob, I think it might be a good idea to break that long of a run with an overnight stay along the way. According to Google, Richmond would be about the halfway point.

Anyone have a recommendation for an easy-access [free] place to get a few z's in that general area?

Also, thinking that it would be a good idea to make the trip mid-week, rather than the weekend--logic being that in the event of any problems, it'd be much easier to find service available. Am I off-base with that?

We've stayed at the Flying J in Ruther Glen in the past. They're very receptive to overniters. We always make at least one purchase in addition to filling the gas tank.

Thanks! Yes, it would be pretty rude not to spend a few bucks at the place.

I spoke with a nice young lady at a Cracker Barrel in Ashland who said we'd be very welcome there. It's good to have more than one option, particularly personal recommendations.

We have not used that one ,but Cracker Barrel’s are great places to overnight. We usually arrive in time for a late supper then just get some rest and take off in the morning.

As a followup, we survived the trip without incident--a round trip of about 1100 miles.

We stayed overnight at the Ashland Cracker Barrel (exit 92) both on the way down and returning. Part of the parking lot runs along a wooded ravine with a small creek; that was the view from our door. On the other side of the ravine, not visible through the trees, is a Walmart Supercenter. Pretty sure we could have stayed there, but it wouldn't have been nearly as pleasant.

On the way out of the parking lot to get back onto 95, there's a gas station you can easily pull just about any size rig into to fill up.

I give the location five stars.

Hi Tin,

Thanks for reporting back. We, and the camper, will make it into that area some day in the future. I have a bunch of work buddies who live in the area to visit.
