Frame paint color

I am working on stripping off what is left of the paint on my Sunline frame. Half of it has already chipped or flaked off. The current bright cream color appears to have been painted on many moons ago, rather sloppily too. Under that it appears it might have been originally dark brown, to match the window frames.

I was just curious if anyone has repainted the frame, what color you used. Just black, or did you use a different color to try to match something?

I painted the frame with black rustoleum. I now touch it up with regular Walmarts black spray paint. Aa well, I painted the entire bottom of the trailer, the aluminum surface with black spray paint again using Walmart black, this eliminates worry about over spray.

On our dirt road trips, rather quickly stone and sand blast off the black on surfaces facing the direction of travel. To counter this I carry a can of black spray paint.

As an aside we spray paint our roof with Walmart white or roll it with whatever white we have when home.

I can just fit under our rig to do this. It's also easy to jack it up and stick a block under each tire and at the corners for a little more working space.

Speaking of painting, I also have used some spray urethane to gloss up the interior surfaces a bit. Try it on a limited area to see if you like it.

I believe the original frame color was indeed dark brown. They were later changed to black, I think in 1992. In 1990 and 1991, I believe the original color was silver, to match the new gray siding color.

Yes, my little 1661 had the dark brown frame, and it was the original paint. I was lucky and found some spray paint that matched really well. Might have been Rust-oleum.

Well I thought about using dark brown. Keeping it original seemed nice. But to me it just looked kinda icky for some reason. I wanted something darker than the skin, but not too dark. So I really fell in love with the color "sand". Got the first coat on the front part of the frame today, along with the jack, battery tray, and Hydrastar mounting brackets. I still kinda torn between almond and sand but think I'm going to paint the LP tray almond to match the tanks that I already painted. I already painted the tank hold-down bar almond. The regulator bracket I'm going to paint almond too. One thing I noticed with the sand color is it perfectly matches the inner part of the edge trim on the camper.

Really can't wait to get the rest of the frame stripped down and finished now.

Yes I've used oil based Rustoleum with good results so that's what I used here and for the AC cover. I painted my snowplow with it about 5 years ago and it's still holding up well. And painted the floorpan of my car after welding it and it's holding up well too.

The rest of the frame, that will be a project to get under it, scrape, brush, grind and then paint..... but the end results are good.

Heads up, wear saftey glasses painting. I had a drip come down on me and if it was not for the saftey glasses I had on it would of been a direct hit in the eyeball.

I put the entire TT up on jack stands to gain some more room. These low riders are really low...

I have a gallon now at home needing to go on my T310. While more room under there to work, there is a lot more frame to do...
