flickering lights

My lights flicker. They don't flicker when the converter is running. I replaced by battery thinking that was the problem; they still flicker.

Any suggestions if so please email me asap, it's driving me nuts.

Welcome to the forum Ty.

That is interesting that lights are ok with the converter running but not ok on just the battery. Many have problems with the converter.

Since the converter connects to the DC fuse bus, it would seem everything from there to the lights is ok. I would be looking at corrosion at the battery connections and then any connections from the battery to the fuse panel. Usually there is an overload breaker between the battery and the fuse panel. Mine is just inside the front of the coach in a small wood covered box in a place almost impossible to find if you didn't know it was there. Knowing what model and year you have would help.

Remember to disconnect the battery and turn off the converter (or remove the shore power plug) if you take any connections apart to check/clean them.

Hopefully someone here with a 286sr will have more detail on how the battery cable runs to the fuse panel and where there are connections to check.

There should be a self resetting overload breaker hidden someplace near the front and it would be a good suspect. I believe the 2006 vintage also had a battery disconnect switch and junction box on the front of the coach, right behind the battery box.

That it does.

I don't understand when they flicker. They flicker when the trailer is plugged in to 120? Because since the lights are 12V, the converter has to do nothing when getting power from the battery. It just transfers the power to those circuits.

I can't help you much with the problem though. Either something is loose, or possibly the converter is going bad. This seems like an unlikely symptom for it to be going bad though.

Rooty, if you have a 2006 camper that is a new one. There should be no flickering on battery or converter. But somehow there is as you are seeing it....

Please help explain more on the flickering on when and how you see it.

On the newer campers the + (red) battery lead goes right to the fuse bus bar in the converter housing and then the 12 volts feeds the inside lights through fuses and all other inside 12 volts needs. This buss bar is powered by either the converter or the battery.

Questions:

Is the battery disconnect switch on the front of the A frame on?

If you unplug the 120 VAC shore power and just run off of battery, do the lights flicker and if so which lights?

If you have the whizzer fan running in the bathroom vent as a test, when the lights flicker does the fan sort of stop and go in speed?

Do you have a 12 volt DC meter?

Hope this helps, need more info to help sort out if you are fighting a DC common (ground) issue or a hot 12 VDC supply problem. If just the lights are flickering and no whizzer fan or anything else 12 VDC then that helps rule out a lot of things.

There have been lots of problems with some of the WFCO converter/chargers I'm going to bet you converter is at fault with leakage in the output stage of the charger.
