I suspect it was more of the sun than the snow that took the marker off. Marker ink is not protected from ultraviolet rays. It will fade totally away within a year. Try going to a hobby shop and get model paint (enamel) in a pen form. I used it to fill in a firefighter's maltese cross on my old style of license plate and it held up pretty good.
