Hutch and I were talking about some other things, and the topic of the Meet & Greet in PA came up.
We'd love to go, but our schedule is already pretty tight for the entire summer. Any free weekends we have in the summer months are committed to taking the grandkids out on short camping trips.
I mentioned that we always go up to Nick's Lake SP outside of Old Forge, NY in the Adirondacks in the fall just before Columbus Day, and maybe we ought to think about making that a Meet & Greet. The weekend would be October 5, 6, & 7 this year.
Hutch liked the idea and the location, so I am tossing it out for consideration to everyone. Old Forge is a little over 3 hours from Rochester and Albany, and most of the rest of the northeast US can get there pretty easily.
(Poppy and Nana, are you listening?
)
Nick's Lake SP's camping area is divided into loops with each loop having 20 to 30 sites. At that time of year, reservations are not required to get a great site, and some of the loops, while open, have hardly anyone in them. We could easily have a dozen units or more all in one loop and be pretty much all by ourselves.
Old Forge is just a couple of miles away, and there's lots to see and do there. Plenty of great shops and restaurants, if that's your interest. The "leaf peeping" is just grand, and there are some great drives to be had right in the area.
Also, the Adirondack Scenic Railroad has several excursions each day from Thendara Station (just a mile or two west of Old Forge); that might be a great group outing on Saturday.
If there is enough interest, I am sure that the park manager can give us a hand with picking a loop and a group of sites in advance.
There you have it. Now, who's up for this?
