Dump line seen on a motor home

It must be almost Spring, our local RV dealer had their first of four weekend open houses so I went to "kick tires" and walk through a lot of units, almost like going to a free RV show along with free chowder and clamcakes. The net result was that I like my 2363 more than ever.

When I opened one of the bays on a motor home I saw the dump line below. Is this something new where the line points UP at a 45 degree angle? Makes me think if they can't assemble something simple like that, what does the rest of the unit look like

I don;t get it???? Did they mount it 90 degrees out of phase? It looks like there is a clean out hole or something under the valve area. Does that hole go to the outside?

If so and they mounted the valve wrong then the hose could come up from the outside and tie in so at least gravity drains the thing.

Something is not right in that pic....


We too went to the RV show today. Nothing there came in comparison to what we now have. Not one of them even came close to the WOW factor that should happen when you walk in a unit you are going to buy.

Yes, it looks like it was mounted 90 degrees off. That is a rubber plug at the bottom that would come out to run the sewer hose through. I stood there a few minutes scratching my head and laughed. I figured someone at the factory just didn't understand how that thing should work.

I figured people here might get a good laugh.

Nothing wrong with the outlet. It will pivot down just by pushing on it. I move ours all the time depending on the ground height. Sometimes I point it down and sometimes straight out to the side.

I wonder why the gray water line needed the white gromet while the black water didn't. A nice big hole for monsters to come inside.

Same here. When I used a Sewer Solution, it was easier to use by repositioning the outlet from a more normal draining position.

H'mm, OK maybe learning something new here. The T310SR has enclosed tanks do it's dump pipe is totally different. But my prior T2499 had the combo joining. I do not remember the outlet being able to pivot. Then again I never tried and it may depend on how tight the bolts are.

The pivot capability was also very handy when I replaced the black side dump valve. I could swing it up or down so that I could get at all four nuts and bolts much easier with a socket wrench.

Mine also move a lot easier with no leaks by lubing the seals with some silicone.

Ahhh, I didn't know that. I thought it was one solid piece between the square bolted brackets. I imagined removing the dump hose and looking down at .... never mind.

Me neither... I haven't had a desire to touch the drain outlet, so I didn't know it moved at all!

I learned about the pivot, when I was fixing the hack job on our T-320SR's black tank piping.

Actually, there is something wrong with that setup. And personally, I wouldn't want it. Our sewage systems, like our homes, depend on gravity to move the "goods". Any plumber worth his salt knows that it is best to avoid a "90 degree" bend in a waste pipe. A 90 degree bend drastically slows the velocity of the flow. If the flow is slowed down, there's more of a chance of a clog or build up at that point.
I know, I've worked in plumbing for many years. What it comes down to is will the set-up work in the photo...it will. Is it the best way to route waste...absolutely not.
