Dometic 2652 fridge in 1999 Sunline will not restart on lp? Please advise.

We are the new owners of a '99 Sunline solaris T1950.

Fridge works great on 120v, when switching to lp will not ignite. Can light manually will run until temperature is satisfied-then will not re-ignite unless I go back and light it manually.

I have confirmed continuity through the electrode. I have power going to the ignition relay control but not producing a spark. Positive and negative are good to the ignition relay. Cleaned end of electrode, tried moving to different area to see if I could get spark, none.

Q: does this point to an ignition relay controller failure? Or is there another path I should take?
I know that the resistance in the electrode changes to produce and stop spark -could that be the problem? How do I differentiate between the two?
If this is answered somewhere else, please point me in that direction.

We did find that there was a recall and plan to look into that as we'll.

Welcome to the forum weluv2camp.

It sounds like most everything is working ok since it runs on gas if you manualy light it. Have you checked the electrode that provides the ignition spark? The electrode should be 3/16 inches above the burner tube, the ceramic insulator should be clean, and the wire from the electrode to the spark transformer should not be pinched on any metal things. It seems the thermocouple is working ok since the gas stays on and runs. If the thermocouple did not sense the heat from the flame it would release the gas solenoid and the flame would go out in about 30 seconds. Note, in the older models like mine and earlier there is a seperate thermocouple and spark electrode, newer units have the flame sensor as part of the spark electrode.

Normally when you start it in gas mode you will hear the "thunk" from the gas solenoid opening and then you will hear a series of "snap" sounds as the igniter sparks from the electrode to the burner tube.

When the the solenoid opens there is indeed a thunk, there is however no spark whatsoever. The spacing is at 3/16. Does this confirm that I should replace the ignition relay control?

In that case it quite probably is the Spark Generator (Dometic part # 2931132027). It has a yellow wire with +12 volts when the gas valve opens and a black wire that goes to ground and the third wire is the high voltage for the spark. It is a little more than a relay since it generates a high voltage like an automotive spark coil to create that ignition spark.

Gene, IT IS FIXED!!!! Thank you so much for your help!! Went to our local RV store last night, they had part in back room they pulled from scrap trailer and blessed us by giving it to us!! Plugged the part in and it fired right up! We are very thankful for this forum, such a wealth of information. Thanks again!
