We were fortunate to have a budget to trade up to a newer and bigger TT this year. After a 4 day stretch camping in our older T-2770 with our 2 kids, their 2 friends and one of our dogs, what seemed roomy enough got a little too tight. It was dog that really sealed its fate however as she always found a way to lay right in the small path that led from the bedroom past the extended couch and dinete back to the restroom at night. We figured a Slide room had to be in our future.
At first, we didn't even entertain the thought of looking at another brand and there was a very nice '07 276SR at a dealer just up the street. The dealer was a little snooty and dismissed us with "Check the web, the lowest price is there" when we asked if there was any room on the price. That sent us looking around.
We were looking for bunks and after seeing an '06 Terry with the dual bunkhouse in the rear, the wife was sold on the idea. I have to admit, the ability to sleep the kids and their friends without having to convert the couch or dinette was VERY appealing to me as well.
Anyhow, I went searching brochures and could not find a Sunline model with that Bunkhouse. We looked at ALOT of other trailers (In our budget) and finally found a private seller on Craigslist selling his 2008 Keystone Sprinter 299BHSS which had a floorplan very similar to the Terry but had the look and feel of the Sunline. I know Keystone is mass produced and will not have the attention to details that Sunlines did but it was very close from the inspection that I did.
Anyhow, we wound up buying it for a few thousand less than anything else similar. We picked it up The friday before Christmas and boy is it a large beast! Our old sunline may have had trouble with ground clearance but I really didn't know how much the low profile helped. This beast pulls fine and I had no stability problems but it sits about 3 feet above the truck topper and our truck aint low! The wind resistance was very noticable and I think this is about the largest I want to tow before moving up to a deisel engine.
Sad that we couldn't stick with a sunline and still meet our needs but very happy with this new rig and can't wait to hit Ft Desoto on the 21st and Sanibel for 4th of July. Still hope to read up on here and chime in every now and then. I may be one of the few people that actually enjoy reading 600 word posts on setting up a hitch. I also may be one of the few that read the entire Chinese 3000w genset thread over at rv.net.....
Don't find many boards where people don't disolve into nastiness when discussing opinionated topics such as campground lights lol.
