aircon sizing

Hey y'all, this is our first rv, a Saturn 16. We'd like to put an aircon unit on the roof, but we're wondering what size btu did Sunline suggest for this rv? Yes, there are other methods of determining approximate btu loads, but the purist in me wants to know what the manufacturer suggested. Any ideas??

You didn't say how large your trailer is, but the smallest A/C you can buy for an RV is 13,500 BTU. Presuming that your TT is 30 feet long or less, that size should be more than adequate for you.

Only the bigger TT's and 5er's need larger or dual A/C units.

11,000 btu would be the smallest and would work fine if your trailer is only 16'

My 1986 T-1661 had a 13.5 Dometic with the heat option on it. In the small trailer I usually was able to use the heat option every thanksgiving when I would go to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg rather than run the furnace and use my propane.

I did not see anything smaller than 13,500 on camping world's website.

So I wonder if the 11K A/C units are even available any more?

Regardless, if the unit is a 16 footer, then is more a matter of what kind of deal can be put together for which unit rather than which is the right size. At least it would to me if I was in the market.

A lot of RV manufacturers just use the 13.5 units for most everything.

Ok, thanks you guys. We'll start shopping for 11k or 13k units. I used to do a/c work, straight out of tech school, so I'm sure I can manage the install. Under or oversizing any a/c unit, in any application, can lead to problems!!
We'll start rolling the pennies now!

Bill, Your roof unit will be similar to installing a window unit. Hole in roof, power to hole, place unit over hole, connect wires and enjoy the cool air. Nuttin to it.

Our 2006 T-2075 had an 11k btu A/C

All the A/C units fit in a 14"X14" vent hole. I have a T1700 it has no A/C but it does have the wiring in a J box and a conduit pipe under the trim for the vent. They are an easy install basically fit the gasket and drop it in the hardware installs from the inside.
