2012 Buttonwood Rally Sign-Up

We have very close friends w/in 15 minutes of the campground. We're considering a trip down and could split our time between visits with them and making new aquaintences with the SOC members. Are all of the sites "OK"? Any areas to avoid? Below zero here in Vermont, but fun to plan some Spring/Summer adventures !

All sites are fine, site #87 is right across from where our "activities" will take place, so if you want to be close, that would be the one to get. There really is no "bad" site, size of sites is pretty much the same no matter which one you'd choose. Some are pull thrus and a few are back-ins. Let us know what you decide.

site information

Wendy and I (Larry) will be attending the 2012 M&G June 8 and 9. Ijust got off the phone with Ryan (at Buttonwood) and he told me all of the sites on the north side of the campground were full for the dates of our M&G. So, I ended up reserving site # 310 next to the river. It will be just the two of us attending. Looking forward to seeing eyeryone again. Maybe next year we won't wait so long to make our reservations, but we wanted to change to a different site for this year and I guess we did.

We decided we'd better get on the stick and reserve our spot ! Yes, according to Ryan, there are family groups reserving sites (Buttonwood website says it is Kid's Carnival weekend). We also reserved a site on the river. Chose #309, so as to be neighbors with Larry and Wendy. I assume there will be others joining us there in time.

  • Site #. 309
  • Nights Reserved. FSS
  • # of Attendees. 2
  • First Name of Attendees. Tom & Debbie

Well gee it's only january. I thought they held sites for us alot later than this. Guess their policy has changed.

River Sites

The river sites will position us for a pit stop for the canoe trip and a chance to refill the cooler. We could use it for a midpoint. Maybe try a bike and canoe trip as a combination like some of us did last year. We are also looking forward to meeting our new neighbors from Vermont.

I thought they held those sites a lot longer than that as well, I'm going to call Monday. If there are no sites open in our normal area Dave & Sue will most likely be missing this year's event unfortunately.

Wow. My guess is since attendance really dipped there for a couple years from what it was the second and third year, they just stopped holding the sites. I mean, it is only January though, I'm surprised. It seems like they're kicking up the weekend events lately. Might have something to do with the national rating they got like a month ago?

For the Midwest M&G, only three of us were able to come last year, but then two of us had to drop out from coming at the last minute. They're still holding the sites for us this year though.

Buttonwood has gotten pricey too - $46 for a standard site, $47 for a pull through, and $53 for premium. Even with our 10% discount that seems high to me.

With the rising cost of fuel and site fees, and now them not holding sites for us as long as they used to, might we have to consider changing locations ??? The per night charge might be worth it "IF" you used all the amenities that they offer, But, Gary & I for instance go to see our Sunline friends. The one amenity that we did do was the kayak trip and that was an extra charge anyway. Mini golf is an extra charge. OH, yeah they do provide the "canvas pavilion & tables".

I guess it might be something that we "might" want to have a general discussion about and see how everyone feels about the "cost" of staying at Buttonwood.

Those prices are average for that type of campground. And most aren't as nice and wouldn't go out of their way to help us.

Agreed. Gateway is also up to $48 for a pull-thru and $53 for the same site on a holiday or race weekend. While Gateway is a little smaller, I think the campgrounds are very similar accommodations wise.

I agree with Kitty. We also come to see friends more than use the campground amenities. And IF Buttonwood isn't holding sites past Jan., which obviously discourages people from coming or forces them to camp away from the group, then it would seem we might want to have a discussion about looking elsewhere.

Being a very new member, I hesitate to make a suggestion, but I will anyway ! Since the sites are taken at the main campground, and many were available on the river, would it be possible for someone to ask politely if a block of river sites might be held for just a week or so. Long enough for anyone wanting to join to get busy and reserve a site. At least we'd have a chance to be in one area on the river and not have the entire group spread all over the campground.

Good idea. I suppose depending on the percent of people up top vs. river side, the 'official' meeting and greeting area could be changed from the tent to the activity hall on the riverside too.

For those who don't know, Buttonwood and the river side used to be two different campgrounds. Then, I think in early '08, Buttonwood purchased the other campground to make it all one. So they have some extra facilities down there available, though I'm not sure what all is left at this point.

Just got off the phone with Brian at Buttonwood and he also confirmed to me that the upper section is full. He told me to call back after March 1 as a group booked 10 sites and they weren't sure they would need them all. So to anyone else you may want to try this as well. If nothing opens, we will not be attending this year I am sorry to say. Guess we should have booked sooner, but thought we had more time than this, and our sites would be available beyond this.

X2. DW and I go to see our friends and not use the amenities at the campground. For us it is more about the people than the destination.
