Happy New Year everyone. It's difficult to imagine but it's a almost time to make reservations for next October already. We have reservations for Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Labor day already because if you want certain desired sites you have to reserve 9 months in advance. We didn't get the site we wanted for Memorial Day because we forgot about it until we were reminded while camping last Labor Day. We tried to find an internet cafe in Wells, NY (yea right) but had to wait until we got home. Too late for the good sites at Sacandaga but we did find one that will suffice.

Has there been any thought to what weekend we want to meet in Old Forge?

Paul, as was decided last fall - this years M&G will be the first weekend in October (Oct 1 & 2)........I know Hutch & Mary made reservations, hope they are for that weekend......I'll be going on line later to reserve our site and the M&G site......

Hi Sherri!!!!

We all agreed that the last weekend that Nicks Lake is open is just too busy to try to schedule the M&G then.

The last weekend in September had some conflicts for folks, so the first weekend in October it is.

We have it on our calendar, but probably won't make reservations right away. We are going to be moving in the spring, and part of the move is rehabbing half of an older home. A lot of our plans for 2010 are going to be fluid because of this move.

The good news is that we'll be an hour closer to Old Forge and 3 hours+ closer to Fish Creek. All without crossing the Blue Line.

That's right Kathy, we've already reserved Site # 37 for that week-end (Oct 1, 2, & 3 (FSS)). So if the ADK M&G is not that week-end Mary & I will be having our own SOC M&G for 2 :D

See you in Oct.

Hutch, I got your email, but it's hard to write a decent reply on the Blackberry. I'm sitting in a hotel in Johnstown right now using the wife's laptop. We ran up to Northville today to take some measurements on the house we're going to move into later this year. So we can truthfully say we were back in the 'Dacks today. Running back up there tomorrow morning to do some more stuff before heading home.

Anyway, rather than start a new thread, let's just make this one the official "sticky" for the 2010 ADK M&G.

Gail and I will almost certainly be there in October, but have to keep ourselves flexible for right now. We are rehabbing a 100 year old house in Northville so it will be a busy year. Actually, it's a duplex, and the left half is inhabitable now so we'll live there while we work on the right half.

Two hours to Nicks Lake; two hours to Fish Creek. Who could ask for better?

Ok, we're there. We got the site with the utilities again (47). Looking forward to seeing everyone.

It's difficult to look out at the camper covered in ice and frozen in and plan a trip. Can't wait to put her back in service.

Northville!!!

Yup. Southern gateway to the Adirondacks. Sits right on NY Route 30 at the very northern end of the Great Sacandaga Lake.

I've grown up in Northville, MI for every one of the almost twenty years of my life...

Reservations for 2010 Adirondak M&G

Hi Everyone,

Wendy and I just finished making reservations for Site # 45 on the C Loop for September 30th, October 1st, and 2nd -Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. We're looking forward to this M&G at Nicks Lake SP.

We'll have to leave for home on Sunday as Wendy must return to work on Monday. We are planning on spending the month of September camping at various locations across Upstate New York. I have not yet made reservations for the western New York M&G, but plan to do that tomorrow. We have made reservations for Lake Erie SP site #13 for the Labor Day weekend.

I guess you can tell that we're getting anxious to start using the Sunline again. Here's to another fine year of camping.

Happy Camping,
Wendy & Larry

We'll be delighted to meet you there.

If you haven't made reservations for the rest of the month around the state, and you like state park camping, there are two websites to check out now:

Department of Environmental Conservation runs all the campgrounds in the Adirondacks and the Catskills. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7825.html

Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation run all the rest of the state park campgrounds in New York. http://www.nysparks.state.ny.us/camping/

All reservations through reserveamerica.com for both groups.

A lot of the campgrounds close up after Labor Day, but there are still many open until Columbus Day and a few beyond. We like:

Letchworth SP -camping open until mid-October. Grand Canyon of the East.

Sampson SP on the shores of Seneca Lake - open for camping until late October. Former WWII naval training center and then Cold War Air Force Base. Museums for both on the park grounds.

Nicks Lake -'nuff said on that one :D

Fish Creek Ponds SP - open until late October. It's way up north in the Adirondacks if you're planning to tour up there. No hookups.

OK reserved Site 54 for Friday & Saturday for the group site - cost $53.00 Leo and I will be there (Site 53 this year - F-S-& S)but must leave on Saturday - why do people plan things when we go camping? Leo's best "buds" daughter is getting married and we MUST attend - but it is only in Thendara - so the long trip won't kill us!!!!!.

I'll collect for the group site when we know how many people will be attending....if we choose not to use it - it would only be the cost of the cancellation fee - I forget what that is but not much.....

Oh I can't wait - sitting here today making all my reservations.....YEA!

Reservations made

I just made reservations for Tuesday through Monday for site #50. I'll be coming up early for a couple of nights and then going home Thursday to pick up Lorie. I have reserved Sunday so we can stay later in the day Sunday and won't have to rush out before 11.

If you are referring to pwb01's mention of utilities, he and I have phony utility posts that look like the real thing with 30 amp electric plug, water spigot, phone and cable connections, etc.

None of the DEC campgrounds in the Adirondacks have hook-ups so it's great fun to set up with one and watch folks scramble to ask how to get that site next year. Spent Saturday afternoon with Paul and Sheri, and Paul mentioned that one lady was quite irate over the fact that it was a gag. Apparently her sense of humor was surgically excised sometime in the past.

My gag utility pole is my only adapter for the 30 amp RV plug to regular 110 vac three prong so I use it a lot because it hooks up to the generator.

Phony? tell that to the DEC. The ranger at Sacandaga "read the meter" this weekend and presented me on Sunday afternoon with a bill for the electrical and water usage.

When asked about it while checking out this afternoon, I said the check's in the mail.

Good fun!

We're so glad you and Gale stopped by.................

Sue and I are on site 42, FSSMT. Is 42 a pretty good site and should we bring the canoe? We've never been to Nick's Lake but are really looking forward to it. Thanks.........................

Excellent - glade you're coming up north again this year, but now a little farther north than WNY :D

Is 42 a pretty good site
I can't remember what Site 42 is like, I know some of the sites on the back were smaller - particularly the one's on the inside of the loop.
Maybe Steve will remember and provide some insight on what to expect.

should we bring the canoe?
Definitely, we'll be paddling someplace and hopefully there it won't rain on us like it did at Buttonwood. ;-)

See you in Oct.
Hutch

The pickin's are starting to get slim so we finally reserved site 55 for Fri-Sat . I know you had unusual waterfront there last year Tom, but I'm betting on good weather. Looking forward to seeing you all there and meeting new friends.
