2009 Buttonwood M&G River Trip Sign Up

Once again at this year’s Buttonwood M&G we’ll be having our annual paddling adventure.

Overview:
 The trip will be a 2+/- hours depending on how much paddling you do :D
 The trip will go from Mifflin to Mexico.
We’ll be doing a different part of the river this year that will end up across the street at Buttonwood’s Riverside camp sites. Here’s a link to Buttonwood’s Kayaking rental page for more information on trip & prices.
 The trip will be in the afternoon, starting in Miffline around 2pm,
and ending at Buttonwood’s Riverside camp sites around 3:30/4pm (again depending on how much you paddle :D )
 We'll meet at 1:45 at the office to shuttle to the starting point.

Shuttle Only:
For individuals with their own kayaks / canoes, Buttonwood will provide shuttle service to the starting point for a fee of $5 / person.

Reservations:
I will be calling Buttonwood on June 5th to identify the number of participants and to reserve the rental units for individuals that have signed up.

Buttonwood has 17 Single Kayaks; 3 Tandem Kayaks; and 10 Canoes available to rent.
Buttonwood is holding all their rental units for us to use in the afternoon until June 5th.

Payment:
Please pay for your rental or shuttle some time after you arrive at Buttonwood or Saturday morning. Payments can be made at the Buttonwood office.
Let them know you are part of the Sunline group.

Buttonwood requires that each rental unit (kayak or canoe) have a whistle.
So bring your whistle with you if you have one. If not, you can purchase a whistle at the Buttonwood Store.

If you are interested in doing the river trip, please post a reply to this topic and include in your reply:

Thanks
Hutch

You can add Steve and I to the shuttle only list. We'll bring our double kayak.

Leo and I would like to go - we only need shuttle and we have two single kayacks BUT I don't want to sign up and find out I can't paddle (medical problem)....so can we go on a stand-by?

I have NEVER kayaked in my life, but it sure sounds like fun. Is it something that's not real hard to learn to do and is 2 hours TOO much for a first timer. I did a very long canoe trip many many moons ago with my now X.

I just need some guiding/advise from those that do kayak as to whether
it's something that any of ya think I can handle, if not I'll pass on the idea.

Another option is teaming up with someone (that's willing to deal with a river newby & trust me) to do a kayak or canoe.

Any takers ?

Thanks
Kitty

Hi Kitty
I felt really nervous 2 years ago when I was going kayaking for the first time at Buttonwood. It is SO easy...MUCH easier than a canoe. (we had a canoe back in the Boy Scout leader days & I really didn't like that)Basically with this trip you just are floating down the river with the current. Steve & I went out and bought a kayak right after that trip :D
And if you do fall out...the water won't be above your waiste so just stand up

Hey Hutch, Please sign us (Kelly and Greg) up for a canoe; and then Ghettomedic and his wife (David and Katie) will take one as well...

SO, 4 people, in 2 RENTAL canoes please.

Thanks!

Hi Kathy,

Have you and Leo on the list. Don't worry if you decide at the last minute not to go.

See you in a few weeks.

Kitty,

You'll have no problem.

I've added you to the list to rent 1 single kayak.

Hi Greg,

Got you guys added to the list.

The only question, will the Brothers from Mass behave?
Or is that why you're bring the wives along - to keep you both in control :p

Looking forward to meeting everyone.
See you in a few weeks.
Hutch

y'all are gonna need that agility the kayaks afford.

Alright Who told on us. We are innocent I tell ya....... :D :D :D Okay couldn't say it with a straight face.

Talked with Nancy at Buttonwood this morning and reserved the rental units for our river trip for the individuals who have currently signed up.

There’s still 2 weeks left to sign up for the trip if interested.

I told Nancy I will call her on June 5th with the final numbers and reservations.
Nancy is holding all their rental units for us for our 2pm trip through the 1st week of June.
So if you sign-up before June 4th you’ll be guaranteed a unit, that is if you need to rent one.

You can PM me if you have any questions.
Thanks
Hutch

Is it OK to bring the beagles on the shuttle? They can sit on our laps. If so, put us down for two shuttle only. We'll have our canoe with us.

Hi Chris & Tara,

I'm not sure about this. It's probably best to talk to the office when you arrive about this.
If not, I'm sure we can figure out a way to get you, the beagles, and your canoe to the starting point.

Hi Guys,

Please add Wendy and Larry to your list for the Canoe/Kayak trip.
We have our own canoe and would only need the shuttle.

Thanks. We are looking forward to the M&G.
