Hi I just bought a 1995 solaris T-2251, we're fixing it up a bit and cleaning everything. We decided to replace all the foam pieces since we don't know how old they are, but we have no clue if there's any way to take the couch/bed out without damaging it, or how to remove the padding or cover. Can anyone help? This our first Trailer and we don't want to loose a hand or break the couch just because we were being dumb. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you in advance :D

Hi Steph,

If you are talking about the couch/bed, we call it a jack-knife sofa, and it looks like this in the pic you posted earlier.

I have not removed the 1995 version, but I have newer ones. See if this fits what you are seeing.

To remove the bottom seat cushion, knell down and have someone lift the bottom cushion part way up. The metal frame will be exposed and spring-loaded; make sure your helper hangs onto the cushion so it does not fall back down on you when you look under it.

Here is the new one before the bottom cushion is removed

Lift up the bottom cushion about halfway up. Look under the bottom on each end of the bottom cushion; you should see two nuts holding the cushion bottom to the metal frame. Mine took a 9/16" wrench to remove them. Once the nuts are off, the studs stay screwed into the wood frame of the bottom cushion, then remove the cushion.

It now looks like this.

The seat back cushion is held onto the frame the same way. Look under the bottom side in the back of the cushion (the side against the wall of the camper). There are two nuts on each end that hold the seat back cushion to the frame. Remove them, and the seat back comes off. You have to fiddle with the frame flexing while you do this to gain access to the nuts, but you can reach up from the bottom and get on them with a socket and ratchet wrench.

The metal frame will stay screwed down to the camper mount. If you want to remove the metal frame also, there are most times 4 screws in the frame to the wood frame holding it up.

I hope this helps, and let us know how it goes. So we know the 1995 ones attached are the same as the year 2000 ones.

Hope this helps

John

Yes! That did work, thank you so much! It worked for the bottom half.

we were trying to get access to clean both sides and clean the area underneath, so we won't take out the top, but after feeling around a bit I did feel those 2 nuts on the back of the couch! It did take a 9/16" too so it's safe to say that the 1995 version comes out the same way

Great! Thanks for reporting back. We all learn from each other

Yeah John, I can confirm my '97 Flexsteel is exactly the same design as Denny's late '07 version (as well as my early '07, borderline '06 version).
