1970s-era Sunline Decals

I have a 1979 Sunline 135RD where the front window cover decals are long gone. This appears to be fairly common with Sunlines, as all the pictures I've seen from the 1970s-era models look to be in the same state of decay.

Researching this forum, I know that decals from the 1970s simply do not exist any more. I'd like to recreate mine with new decal material, but it's difficult to see what the original design even looked like.

From what I can tell, looking close, it appears to be a repeat of the 4-colored striping (brown, red, orange, gold) and an offset circular sun. Does anyone have an old pic of this front window cover from a Sunline with the same exterior design that I can reference?

Hi and Welcome!

Club member Sunline Fan is our guru of the older campers and may have better access to this info. He is restoring a 1979 12 1/2 MC at the moment and would have the same issue with the decal. Here is his post on the 12 1/2 MC, https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f63/new-project-sunline-1979-12-1-2-mc-18647.html

Try contacting him through the PM system. He is not on the forum all the time due to work etc.

Hope this helps

John

This is pretty tough, but I admire your interest in restoring it! The rock guard design changed a lot from the mid '70s through the early '80s. Unfortunately, the only '79 brochure I have does not show a front side of a trailer.

When I bought my '79 12-1/2' MC, the rock guard on it was pretty shot too. There was mold on it that resembled an S, so I traced that before pressure washing.

To restore the rock guard, I removed it from the aluminum frame. Once removed, I discovered it had four color stripes that I had no idea about. I took it to an automotive paint supply store and had paint matched for those four colors, which had been hidden from UV.

I masked off and painted each of the four stripes, as well as the center S. I tried figuring out the colors best I could from old pics I had, which luckily I think I had pics of two trailers that had obviously been garaged and preserved. However, they changed the stripe placement and design slightly between the smaller trailers and large trailers (with different size rock guards.

Attached below is what I came up with in restored form.
