Good news the element is OK. Sometimes they get corroded in there and that is a task to get the out.

The little red light is a whole lot easier to replace.

Been out camping and just saw your post. You had a couple questions but this comes back to, does your water heater "work" on electric? Just maybe it does actually heat, just no red...
