The material isn't so important. Brass to plastic and or plastic to brass.The threads are. The threads have to be tapered to tapered or straight to straight. The adapter John refers to is on one end...

It looks like the plastic T treads are going as deep as they can into the brass female and the taper just isn't closing up tight enough.
