Yeah the coils will take 12 volts the wiring won't take the load of the magnets for very long though! Because 2 magnets wired in series would not produce the resistance the controller expected it...

Hint, do not pull the break away cord to check brake operation unless all 4 are of the ground and you can do it really fast. Likely as not it will cook the switch and maybe some wiring. Have a friend...
