Since the mouse is getting to the roof it could go through the screen at the fridge vent. That screen has fairly large holes. Perhaps a screen with smaller holes if it doesn't block air too much. ...

If you use D-Con you can place it where kids...
If you use D-Con you can place it where kids can't get at it. With it on the outside and it does draw more rodents, so what? It is a poison and is going to kill them, so what?
