Niagara Falls camping
Does anyone have any recommendations for a campground or rv park in the Niagara Falls area? Also, are dogs allowed anywhere near the falls?
Joe

Are you looking for somewhere on the US or the Canadian side of the border. If you are looking on the Canadian side I would suggest Riverside Park RV. Although I have never been their I have hear some really great reviews about the park. If you are looking for something on the US side and you are looking for a state park, I have heard the Four Mile Creek is a nice park. Although this one is not right in Niagara Falls NY, I believe it is farily close. I am sure others will be along soon who are more familiar with the campgrounds near Niagara Falls on the US side of the border than I am.

Hi Joe,
Four Mile Creek is a nice New York State Park, sites with electric (30A) hook-ups, roomy, open sites, not many trees, bathrooms are ok. We've camped there a lot, at least once a season.
It’s located on Lake Ontario, maybe 15min from the Lewiston-Queenstown (SP?) bridge into Canada. It’s not the closest campground to the falls, but probably the least expensive.
Plus, if you cross at the Lewiston-Queenstown bridge, the drive south along the river road is very nice and a lot of places to stop and see including the floral clock, the whirlpool, etc. Plus Four Mile Creek is near Fort Niagara on the US side which is a neat place to tour. You would pass Fort Niagara on your way to and from the falls.
I strongly recommend viewing the falls from the Canadian side, but you’ll need your passports to cross the boarder.
We’ve also stayed at the KOA in Niagara Falls, CA. It’s expensive, sites in front are very tight, but it’s just a couple of minutes from the falls.
Hope this helps.
Send me a PM if you have questions or what additional information.
Hutch

Thanks Hutch and Trailblazer,
I'll certainly give Four Mile Creek a try. Do you know if there are any pet restrictions at the campsite and also at Niagara Falls? I was thinking of putting Daisy in a kennel for a day or two while we tour if there are. Any suggestions?
Joe

No pet restrictions at Four Mile Creek (except the normal, on a leash, pick after, etc.)
Same at the falls, pets allowed as long as on a leash & pick after.
You may want to check out this web site for more info Niagara Falls Travel Tips
Have fun.

Hutch,
What kind of weather should I expect in late September along the I90? Four mile creek sure sounds good to me. Is there any camping pressure there this time of year?

Thanks Hutch for recommending Four Mile Creek State Park. It's a beautiful campground with a great view of Lake Ontario. Not far from the "Falls" and at this time of year plenty of room. Our stay at Herkimer KOA, although just overnight, left me impressed with the northern part of the state of NY. Definitely on our return list. As an aside, going across the Rainbow bridge to Canada, we were stopped at the border and questioned by a not to happy Canadian customs lady, who then ordered us to the side to be inspected. No problem going back to the US side. An upbeat customs man greeted us.

Sorry to hear about the problem coming into Canada. Generally we find the Queenston/Lewiston bridge or the Peace Bridge a lot easier to cross at with fewer problems. I general avoid crossing at the other bridges as I always seem to get pulled in for inspection at them.

We've been pulled aside at the border crossing before too. I think they just like to tour all the RVs

driving to Canada
for some reason the Canadian gals who work the border often seem short w/ many border crossers. We expect an inspection when a female's in booth. Perhaps they're just more diligent ?
BTW an "enhanced" driver's license available from many states (inc NY) is all you need to cross (& return) the land borders into both Canada & Mexico
