Canadian news
Since the passing of 911 the whole world was affected in some way. Many Canadians hung the American flag along side our own Canadian flag signifying that we are as one and in support of the USA.... with pride.
I'm sure many here heard about OUR recent tragedy when an unarmed soldier was shot and killed at our War Memorial which is guarded every day by various departments of our military on rotation. They caught and killed the lone gunman. Few of us even knew that when the soldiers guarding the Cenotaph their rifles are not loaded. It is, after all, symbolic
The soldier that was killed was CPL Nathan Cirillo from my city of Hamilton. What really hit home was that his house was not 5 blocks from our house and his son attended kindergarten in the same school and class as our neighbor's son.
Media surrounded the funeral home which was right behind where I used to work, prior to my retirement at the cable company about 3 blocks away.
I have driven by his house many, many times not knowing who he was. In fact I saw him building a new fence this past summer and, at the time, he was just another person building a fence.
I spent much time wrestling with the idea whether I should post this topic on an RV and camping forum. This is, after all, a place for gathering and sharing happiness. However, I couldn't let this go by, mainly because it was so close to me.
On a much smaller scale I guess we could call this our 911 and it proves as peaceful as Canada is we, too, are not immune to such tragedy.
