(Thanks to Kitty, I can post some pics)
Penny and I went to W.Va. for a week at Blackwater Falls.
We went to the park on Sunday, passing folks headed home and camped 'til Friday, passing folks coming in to avoid the crowds associated with peak leaf season.
This park is located on both edges of a canyon. It has a wilderness feel to it with a diversity of terrain, scenery, and plant life. We chose this park both for the scenery and the plethora of short hiking trails. In nearby Davis, there is a good grocery store and several restaurants (if you go full-bore vacation mode and decide not to cook).
Here's the view from the lodge's stone patio.
This is the view from the boardwalk at the base of the falls.
Trails wandered through tall trees and wild cranberry bogs.
Some of the wildlife is barely "wild." This fawn was so curious about us, she came into camp.
Previously we've been to Babcock, Wautoga and Pipestem state parks. West Virginia in the fall is on our repeat list, for sure.
