Sunline Sunspot
If anyone hasn't seen a Sunline Sunspot, I "spotted" a couple on eBay today. I haven't seen any for sale in a long, long time, and now there are two! The first one says the owner thinks it is an '85, but the Sunspot wasn't made in '85. The exterior also appears to be repainted:
Here's the link to the rest of the ad:

Here is the second Sunspot. It's advertised as a 1980, and to the best of my knowledge, appears to be so:

For those of you who don't know much about the Sunspot, this is Sunline's lightweight engineering at its best!

I have never seen these. Almost reminds you of the old teardrops. Wonder why Sunline never reintroduced, I guess the new Tabs are selling and the Sunspots seem to be comparable?

Jon,
What do the rear doors access? Storage? Cooking area?

Mike,
The rear doors open up to a kitchen area, including a single bowl sink, stove, and 3 cu. ft. (I think) refer. Follow the link for the first one to see more pics. BTW, the 11th pic shows what looks like a broken cabinet. It's not, it's actually a pass through to the sleeping area. There is a small storage cabinet below the rear doors.
The '80 looks like it's been gutted on the inside and lacks all interior appliances. Also, they both should have the bed convert into two couches, but neither one shows a pic of it that way. The Sunspot was availble with many options, including front and rear awnings, front stone shield, and interior dinette table.

The 1980 was so cute that I bought it. I pick it up mid-week next week.

The 1980 has indeed been gutted inside, and has had some of the studs replaced and cedar faced plywood was used to refinish the walls. It also has a new linoleum floor. The piping and water tank are gone; the sink may also be gone, too. I won't know until I pick it up and remove the white piece of formica covered wood that the previous owner plunked atop the original back counter. The bolsters are gone (also not a bad thing) and it doesn't look like this particular trailer ever had the stove option, the propane lines or shore power. It has a 12v battery which powers two lights, one in the sleeping side and one in the galley. It still has the back and side canopies with poles--no idea their condition until I get her home. I don't think there is a rail over the passenger side wheel well to hook on an outside table. There's a pretty good hole in the door, as if it got opening into something. The hole goes through the exterior side of the door, but didn't go through the interior, so I think I should be able to fix it. I'm also going to covert the battery so that it can charge off my Chevy S10's battery, but for now I'm just using a 4pin Tconnector to hook up the lights and get her home.
Also, the wall between the galley and sleeping compartment is gone...not necessarily a bad thing. I don't have a pass-through door, I have a full pass-thru. So while I initially gave a little thought to restoring or retrofitting, I think it will have more potential as a semi-cargo unit for when I need to move dog agility and obedience equipment, and a barebones camper when I want to go camping.
I was/am very attracted to traditional teardrops, but don't have a shop or garage where I can build/store it during construciton. And here in upstate NY, I need a dry, warm interior workspace for 8-9 months of the year. I was also looking at new/used teardrops, but most of them are at least a half-day drive from me. Then I noticed this camper last weekend, realized the guy was only about 40 minutes from me, and took a spin down to see it. The floor seems solid, the fram seems true, the exterior levels seem sound. Window louvers and door and screens all fit tightly, open smoothly and close true. And it's light enough that I can just push/pull it over to the trailer hitch.
I'm going to bring her home, get the wheel bearings repacked, check the tires and pick up a spare, fix the hole in the door, clean her up and go camping. The Sunspot is the perfect size for a single camper, and will be easy to handle and maintain myself. I'm camping, after all...not looking to bring the Marriott along on wheels.
I can't wait to bring her home!

Well, I never thought my post about the Sunspot would bring up both a new owner and member here. Congratulations on your new coach!!!
I'd love to see pics once you get it home, especially with the awnings set up. I've only seen pics of Sunspots with the side awning; never with the rear. I remember hearing that it was indeed an option, but I've never seen one with it. Also, let me know if you find any brochures/paperwork with it. I only have a couple flyers on the Sunspot, which are listed in the Files section, and I know I'm missing some of the years. If you find something with your unit that you don't see in the files section, let me know. I'd appreciate if you could scan the brochure and e-mail it to me.

I just went back and looked at that eBay ad again. It says in the ad that the sink was removed, but hopefully it was just covered.

Jon, I'll absolutely take pictures and scan in any paperwork that I find to add to your knowledge base here.
I didn't unpack them when I was checking out the camper, but it has a rail for the awning over the galley doors as well as a rail for an awning over the side. So even if the awnings in the storage bin are in bad shape, I can duplicate an awning that will fit in the awning rail on the back.
I think both the sink and water tank were removed, but I'll know more when I bring her home. The white formica board over the original counter seems to set flush on the original counter, so I'm guessing the sink may be gone.
I'll let you know.

Gaelen,
I followed the link, but couldn't find a way to view the pics. When I went to properties and tried to view the pic directly, it told me I wasn't allowed to see it. When I tried to view your album, it asked me to sign in.
Could you try posting them here when you get a chance? It looks like your T&TTT forum is highly secure and won't let outsiders see much.
Jon
