the smallest single generator would be a Yamaha 2400is, or 2 honda 2000's paired together.

Mike is right.
While a 2000 watt generator can just barely start the AC unit, everything else in the camper has to be off, including the convertor.
The inrush current is a little over 34 amps and then it can take 13 amps constant draw. The starting of the unit is what is driving you to the 2400 watt or larger genny.
Hope this helps
John

We had a 2005 T2753 with the 13,500 BTU A/C unit and we ran it without any problem with our Yamaha 2400is. Now with your trailer being a 2000 model year you may have to add a hard start kit to the A/C to make it work. I can't find my pics right now but here is a website where the fellow did a lot of testing with Yamaha 2400is.
2manytoyz - Yamaha EF2400iS Generator
I had performed the same measurements of amp draw with our trailer and had very similar test results. We are now using the same yamaha 2400 to run the 15,000 btu A/C unit on our 5'ver without any problems. Later this summer I hope to do the same measurements with the 15,000 BTU unit and see what results I get.
One thing to remember when using the Yamaha 2400is, the success to using it is proper power management. For instance don't run the microwave and A/C at the same time. Same goes for the Hot water tank. Just remember to shut down one high draw item before turning on another one.

2manytoyz is the fellow that helped me with my backup camera that I installed on my '05 PSD. Seems like a really nice guy and very helpful.

Yup, he did definitely did a super of job of documenting that setup as well as a great sales pitch for the Yamaha 2400 generator. I tend to go to his site when ever I have a question about the generator. Here is another link where he gives you a Peek inside the Yamaha EF2400is Generator
If you are interested in checking out his main website here is the link 2manytoyz

Agree 100%. I have contacted him on different things regarding my generator and also found him to be a very nice and helpful gentleman. When ever I have contacted him I he responded very quickly and was always willing to help or answer any questions I had.

Anybody have any recommendations for a less expensive GenSet that delivers 2500+ continuous and does not sound like a B-17 landing?

tndan- we have the Champion 46540 generator and are pleased with the performance. it was a bargain for what we needed and it powers the 13,500 BTU A/C with no problem. it always starts, it's usually a first pull. i run it at least once a month for 15 minutes or so and couldn't be happier with it.

Though I don't own one, I've heard the Honda EU series is just about the quietest generator you can buy.

You pay for the quiet. Inverter generators are the quietest they run slower. 60 cycle generators generally run 3600 RPM some older Onan's ran 1800 RPM but that is what it takes to make 60 HZ. Inverter generators are DC generators and use electronics to make 60 cycles so they are not speed dependent. They also put them in a nice neat box because they can get away with it the inverters don't run as hot. Honda makes a 3000 watt unit that is out standing I powered some equipment at a remote site with one and it was as quiet as the 1000 watt Honda. The Champion unit is the only one I know of that has a 30 amp RV plug socket nice touch, I suspect that it is pretty heavy though and it is a 3600 RPM generator.

Keep in mind when looking at Generators you need to look at the DB rating. The Honda 2000 and the Yamaha 2400 both have eco modes and are rated at 53db to 58db depending on the load. The 58db rating is the equivalent to the sound level of a normal conversation. For every increase in 10db, the sound level doubles. IIRC the Champion 4000 has a 68db rating which means it is twice as loud. Now this is still less than most other non inverter style generators.
Champion also makes a 2000i inverter generator that can be hooked up in parallel with another Champion 2000i inverter generator effectively doubling the amount of power available. This is probably the lowest price you are going to find for an inverter style generator. The last time I check 2 Champion 2000i inverter generators with a parallel kit was around $1,300. Here is a great threat on the Chamption 2000i inverter generators

Anybody have any experience with this? Great Price and seems ok. Not sure about longevity.....
