An interesting item at Costco...

Was in Costco yesterday and was over by the freezer section. A lady was picking up a two boxes of something I'd never seen before and I asked about them. Her comments made me pick up a box...

Brand: Ajinomoto
Item: Vegetable Yakisoba
Costco Item # 464292

Summary: It's good, quick and filling.

The box contains six plastic bags, each with a one-person meal inside. The meal is japanese stir-fry noodles, vegetables and a sauce.

Cooking is easy - open the bag just enough to vent, and lay it in a microwave safe bowl and zap it for 3 or 4 minutes. Open the bag, dump the contents in the bowl, and eat. I added a little soy sauce. Cleanup consists of washing the bowl and fork, and dumping the plastic bag in the trash.

The use-by date on the box I picked up in October of 2018 is January 2020, so they will keep in the freezer for a year or so.

The work microwave has a spinner so it's cook for 3 and a half minutes and eat. My home microwave does not have a spinner so to prevent cold spots I have to cook it for a minute and a quarter, then rotate, then repeat twice.

Price out the door is a little steep - about $12 for the box (plus local taxes), or $2 per meal. Despite the price I have a box in the freezer for when I get home after working an overtime shift.

It does look great! But, as you said, the price is a little steep. You could easily make meals just like these with noodles, or swap out for rice, potatoes, tofu, etc. Put single servings in freezer bags and you've saved a bundle. Hope this works for you!
